Hello fellow Cruiserheads, been a mud member for some time but didn’t get my dream project car till last month so hence the post. I’m from the beautiful island of Cebu, Philippines. We do have local 80s here but all are manual transmission but with powerful 1HDT engines. Traffic in Cebu is really bad so it’s ideal to find a AT vehicle. So finally finding an original lefthand drive LC80 was a find for me. So naturally I thought of posting my project 80 as it progresses into the mighty beast that I intend it to be. Got this 1995 1FZFE Landcruiser 80 last September and have been up many nights surfing/trolling to see what goodies might be placed on my baby 80.

Welcome! Nice to see some 80's from the Philippines.

I was just over working on some remote islands in Romblon Province last month and every time I return to the Philippines there are fewer and fewer 80s on the road. Glad to see one you found one you can keep alive. Keep us posted on progress.

Good looking 80 kabayan! I'll back in the Philippines in January and hit up Banawe sa quezon city to buy as much parts I can bring for my 80 & 100 :D. Good to see you found a mint 80! Enjoy pare!

So the work/fun begins! Started by cleaning up the engine bay to better see what needs to be done and what needs to be replaced(attached the before and after pics). The list of parts for my local toyota dealer keeps getting longer by the hour hehe.
New Radiator and hoses(old one was operated on already)
New water pump
New belts
Timing Chain, tensioner
Plugs and H. Tension wires
Brake pads and repair kits
And more....
Some parts I can get immediately but most of the parts takes 30 even 70 days because they have to order from Japan. Oh the agony of waiting.

Why replace the timing chain and tensioner? Usually not needed like other Toyota engines that have a timing BELT?
That’s what my other friends say that it’s a belt. I gave the vin to my local toy dealer and they said it’s a chain. I guess I’ll find out soon when they open it.

Installed Dobinson 4”inch lift and Dobs steering dampers. I like how the Toy 80 stands now. I don’t know how it rides yet but looking at the reviews it seems to be good.

While my Baby is in the shop we replaced the ratty old smelly carpet and had the old seats, side panels, center console and shift boot reupholstered. Changing the old cracked brownish grey leather to black with red stitching to give it a new look. Hopefully turns out nice.

Chain.

The ::: only ::: thing that ever gets an eyeball is the guides for it.

Even then, it's just that a chunk may possibly come off & shift, but even Slee's site with the pic of the example it was totally running fine IIRC.

Anyhow, cool 80 - neat to see some on other continents.

Thanks LINUS. Will do the timing change when my radiator arrives so it's all in one go.

Are you leaking oil out the front main seal? - all the timing chain work requires pulling that front cover & very few here bother unless you already have a reason. Your friends gave you good info for timing belt motors, this isn't one.

The chain is fine, but if you're sitting in traffic I'd be far more concerned with your fan clutch than the timing chain. That I didn't see on your list & is money far better spent than pulling the chain cover for anything besides major oil leaking.

That chain is what makes these so awesome - I won't buy a vehicle with a timing belt, even the current 200 series motor is back to a chain drive. HTH.

Timing chain removal requires you to remove the cylinder head. Would not replace unless there is front end chatter noise or slack. Just did mine at 245k miles. Did head rebuild and replaced head gasket while in there.

That’s the thing I love about my Land Cruiser...... no need to mess with the timing chain! Other manufacturers need to learn from “T”, people..... other than Cruiser owners..... are paranoid of their timing chains/belts.
