TIPS: Buy new stainless bolts (CCOT has the whole set) The original Toyota bolts have all the strength of a threaded potato.

Make sure that your wipers are installed and working prior to bolting on the top (this only applies to those of us with wipers on top of the windsheild frame.)

Make sure you take the time to remove any broken bolts and replace them. If you skip bolts, your top will sound like a bag of anvils being thrown down a steel staircase every time you hit a bump.

Lastly, replace all seals.

About swapping a 74 or later front end in a earlier fj40..

Correct me if I am wrong (I am sure you will) the 74 + years FJ40 had disc brakes up front , a 4 speed , and a 4.2 as compared to a 3.8 , 3 -speed and all drums of earlier models ? Is this correct ? So can you guys tell me why I would goto the effort of a "mini- truck" disc brake swap as opposed to finding a 74+ front end with disc's ? Would it not be a direct drop in & bolt up ? :hhmm:

Also on the mini truck theme .... what are some comments on dropping in 85 or earlier ...front end , rear end , say... v-6 and five- speed and adding e- lockers front and rear ????? This was an idea I was tossing around....all input appreciated.
Thanks, Terry

if you go with the mini knuckles you get the wide steering arm pattern which is stronger but moot if you keep it close to stock. truck axles are wider and have a centered rear so you would have to change the whole drivetrain or build a hybrid rear. your cruiser looks pretty clean keeping it stock increases its resale value if that is something you may do down the road. Not many true stockers left Hope to find one in someone barn one day HAHA
