I'd slap some low gloss clear on that and drive her as is. Very nice survivor you got there jbee:)!! I'd be on it like Paparazzi on Lindsay if I was in the market for one. I have one more payment left on my '09 Tacoma, but I am looking for an 80 series to suit the family a little better. GLWS!!

Check out this thread https://forum.ih8mud.com/fj40-bj40/785465-need-more-valuations-you-pros-out-there-3.html (post 55). I linked this guy to your auction, and you responded in an earlier post before you started this thread. The guy looking must not have much knowledge on any collector car going by the crap he keeps posting. It's almost like he NEEDS to buy an overpriced polished turd, spend WAY too much money on getting it even close to reliable then realizing he should have listened to us from the beginning.

I haven't ruled that one out as the auction is still on. They are all overpriced from what I can tell. I appreciate any/all information regarding what or what not to look for. I do not have extensive knowledge of old vehicles, hence the thread title. The patina is cool, but the cancer in the back isn't my idea of a patina and isn't so desirable to me. That's what I was inquiring on cost to fix. No polished turds please

Though my post seems nasty, it's the truth. I was where you were once some twenty plus years ago. I have learned some hard lessons in regards to buying collector cars. That's why I was repsonding so often with potential leads to your thread.

As for rear sill rust, I stated it's like death and taxes. All cruisers have had it, currently have it, or they are the exception to the rule that lived in the driest climate in the country in a climate controlled garage since new. Basically, it's a design flaw much like the 84-88 toy mini beds that rot out at the triple lap seam along the middle of the bed. Don't consider it a deal breaker if you find one like jbee's that has it. The replacement panel is relatively cheap and a fairly straightforward repair. That goes for the rear 1/4 sections as well.

My advice is free and though I am by no means a cruiser guru, I've been restoring cars for 20 years. My father has been doing it for 55 years and has owned and operated a bodyshop for over 40 years now. It's safe to say that working on cars is in my blood. Pair that with the others that have chimed in on your thread telling you to steer clear of the rigs you posted up should be an indicator that you might need to do a little more homework into exactly what type of cruiser you want. Finding an original survivor is the best way to ensure that you can get sound advice on this site when you are looking to troubleshoot hiccups you encounter along the way. The $9k you spend on this will go MUCH further than the gray one you posted with the SBC in it. You'll be able to drive it and learn why these are the best 4x4's in the world.

I messed up a couple things in the description and some local guys here have told me my photos were crappy and didn't show the truck very well. I'm going to tighten things up and throw it back out there. I'll update the thread with better details and better photos. Thanks for your interest, anyone is welcome to come by and check it out in the mean time.

I can actually see you in that rig Aaron. Definitely your style.

You're right Brian but did you forget about "Landfill", my '76 40? And hey! Quit hijackin' the man's for sale thread!

jbee, please post more pics of your rig, it's outstanding!

Back on ebay!!

Hi,
Finally have my 1974 FJ40 Factory Soft Top back on Ebay. I had to update my description and take some better photos; I think the new photos turned out great!

Here's the eBay link

This would be a great first or last FJ40 for someone. It looks and runs well enough to enjoy and drive right away!

Please tell you friends and acquaintances and in-laws and out-laws about it. It's the real deal!

No, Sorry! I'm in Arizona and have not had it on since I bought the top here on 'mud about a year ago. It's a solid top, great fabric and in great shape.

Dammit they sure did!
