Hey guys,

My clear coat is peeling off my 100 series and needs a repaint. Maybe re-cleared not sure if thats possible or not. Great truck, low miles but the paint looks like crap. I can hardly stand it. So I'm thinking of possibly going flat black or what OKC calls murdered paint. What are thoughts for resale value, cool factor, keeping the paint looking nice (would I need to have the body shop clear this?

Any thoughts would be appreciated. I'll find a photo of the paint.

Thanks,

Hoz

I am liking monster liner.... that is if you wheel... but dont waste your time with plastie dip for paint.

Never really been a fan of the "murdered" look but I saw one on the TLCA page that was tastefully done. I'm trying to find it.

That is sharp looking and I do wheel my 100 series. Thats why I bought it. No way in hell I would take my 16 TRD Sport Tacoma on the trails...to pretty yet.

I said the same when I bought my '11 Taco brand new, but it happened quick and it was fun.

I trade every two years and the princess keeps stealing it, won't drive the handy so....yep thats never going offload.

Don't ever sell a Cruiser, 100 series or any series. Buy em. Don't sell em.

:)

Keep in mind that they paint Solar water heaters, flat black for a reason and is not because of darth vader his is uncle..

White/silver roofs all the way, passive temperature control, do whatever you want with the rest..

Oh normal shiny Black scratches like crazy, mud does not look good on it and is never "perfect", Mat black all of the above plus shows your finger prints if you eat burritos or use any kind of chemical products..

Ps: the black "TRD", Oh my, but I'm really glad I only get to experienced it in pictures...

I have yet to notice my dark colored modern cars being any hotter or cooler than my white cars. And I live in central Tx.

Flat would be hotter than the shiny @ScubaJon

I think the murdered out look can be cool on some cars. But, it seems like if the car is very new and very nice, it looks good. Once the car/truck gets some age on it, the same paint can make it look like a beater.

And yeah, @Patineto highlighted some practical pains in the ass - staining, smudging... The door edges will always look like crap from hands... For what's supposed to be a low-prep, cheap route... it's a tough look to maintain

Watching Jay Lenos garage the other day and they have a guy that Builds specially Land Cruisers in California the land of nuts and fruits. He now also Builds speciality looking beaters where they clearcoat the patina so it doesn't continue to rust install a new frame an engine, interior on Say a 60s Chevy and sell it for $350,000. After seeing Lenos show and knowing what a reliable tank my 100 series is I started thinking how, maybe it's worth more with Bad paint versus good paint. Just clear coat it ;)

Many moons ago, I fell for the flat black allure, sadly every motorcycle thieve got the same idea, so you will get stop by the cops to check your papers and vin numbers all the time (In San Francisco)

Good way to get out of the habit, not like I care how the bikes look, don't even ask me why I did it, no clue, it never came out right, what a pain..

Not my thing, but if you like it ... go for it!

"Murdered" means the entire car is blacked out. Black paint, black wheels, blackened tail lights, limo tint.

Flat black to normal non-rap stars is called "flat black" and matte black also goes by "matte black"
