Do you guys all have separate keys for the gas filler door and the ignition/front doors? Or is it just me?

so someone must have re-keyed my doors and ignition but not the filler flap at some point. How stupid.

Maybe they kept the fuel door key different for a reason. My deceased BIL did that for his Blaser - when it was stolen, it was abandoned on the freeway shoulder out of gas. Convenient for you is convenient for the thief.
Myself I never really take the keys out of the ignition except to put in gas with a locking gas cap. I seldom lock the doors either - best antitheft device is a manual transmission and no AC besides being a rust bucket.

Guessing locks were changed not rekeyed.

When I bought my 68 the ignition switch used a different key. The original switch was in the glove box. Pulled the tumbler out of the old switch and installed in the replacement switch. Back to one key. When I installed a 73 top after pulling the 40 on it's side I switched the lock from 68 hatch into 73 hatch. I when switched to 79 doors from a wrecked 40 I used the code on the passenger's door lock to get a key. 73 ignition switched to the column and fuel door started. Those are both double sided lock. Locks for the doors and hatch were still single sided locks. 75 side were double sided locks but ambulance doors remained single sided locks.

Doing a lock isn't rocket surgery IMHO. Lots of youtubes to learn from. That lock picking lawyer guy is interesting. My favorite lock tool is my 458.

Good lighting, maybe a LED magnifying unit, and a clean shallow cardboard box to work in helps with spring loaded ball detents and such in switches etc.
