Now I really understand why this site is appropriately named IH8MUD! I went wheeling for the first time and went through several bodies of water/mud. Nothing really hardcore, but enough to make cleaning it a pain. I've washed my truck 3 times since Saturday. First I washed it right after I went wheeling - stopped at a gas station and used a power washer for a good hour on the engine bay, under carriage, and body. Took it through a drive through car wash on Sunday. Tonight I spent 2 hours with a power washer, soap, and two bottles of orange degreaser to spray the engine bay and under carriage. Still have mud spots under the truck and in the engine bay. The outside of the truck looks fine. How the hell does this stuff come off?

Pics look fine to me and you've obviously got it as clean as it needs to be although I would dry some of the water off of the top of the a/f canister. What's the problem?

I went wheeling last weekend and my engine bay is covered as well (not as bad but pretty bad). I know I'll sound like a :princess: but I like keeping the motor clean as it makes it easier to work on.

I've seen some pics of Junk's junk after a mud bath and it was really bad. The only thing I have had luck with is a rag and some varsol (plus elbow grease).

But maybe there's an easier way?

Yummy. Looks like fun. Wish I could get my 80(read the wifes 80) out like that but that might be suicide.

BTW, the pics are the BEFORE shots... the truck looks much better now. However the mud spots in the engine bay and under carriage bother me (too dark out to take pics). Am I being too picky?

yes,

if you wheel the undercairage will become permanantly mud stained, especially here in GA hwere we have red clay to deal with

besides, it makes the Lexette look less :princess:

thats not mud man, thats colored water. :flipoff2:

Someone obviously has not met Georgia Red Clay yet. G.R.C. and I are, lets say, well acquainted. :D

One good thing about the 40 is that it is a much quicker/easier to clean than the 80-its always oily so no mud sticks anywhere. :D

If you are gonna play in the mud-buy a pressure washer. It will pay for itself in time saved.

Looks good to me, nice way to get started. Now its easier to go get dirty.

Just wait for your first dent, thats something to look forward to also !!!!

next time you go wheeling, put the hood down first and you wont get so much mud in the engine bay :flipoff2:

The cleanest I ever saw my engine was on the remnants of a hurrican eyears ago. Driven rain ckleaned things pretty well....the stupid open cell foam at the top edge of the front of the radiator (visible in the photo above) was washed away completely.....Rob M concord, MA USA

This may sound silly ... but it works

Next time - before you go - buy a can of cooking spray and coat everything (undercarriage, body panels, wheel wells, engine bay) EXCEPT the brakes, glass, and things that get hot. Dirt, mud, grime falls right off. Works best if the spray has time to dry a little to form a film.

Yaa I kinda gotta agree. Ive had my rig in some deep ass mud and water and never had my engine compartment look like that. Can you imagine what people would say if you actually broke out PAM and sprayed your rig down before wheeling. :princess:

I prefer skin so soft by avon....keeps the bugs away I buy five gallons and use a garden sprayer to apply it.....I order so much avon stuff I get a free purse with skin so soft every other order....Um? was that out loud???? SERIOUSLY.....Are you freaking kidding me????oil up your windows???? You people are SICK, sick I tell you.....Rob M concord, MA

Rob..... agree on the skin so soft and chiquitos

However, reread the post. You'll find a key word there in UPPERCASE for emphasis.

Dude, good to see you getting out...but that's not mud. As Cruisin points out, that's colored water. Next time don't plow through the water at 50 MPH and you won't have a problem.

:whoops:

DOH! Many apologies. My typings sucks and my reading is worse!

Try running a sprinkler under your truck for an hour. Then set the sprinkler in the engine bay and close the hood. You wont knock anything loose like you can with a high pressure application.

You have reached the time in life for a major decision. Is it a truck, like for four wheeling or a show car, like to impress your friends? :D
