Mudders!
Is there any products or clever mechanics out there that have devised a way to keep mud from getting into the starter, thus causing it to lock up. In most cases I can pull it take it apart & clean it & it's back to good, I even carry a spare on the trail at this point. But would love to hear your thoughts. Is it just me or has anyone else run into this, I know one of my buddies Heep has the same problem.

I simply refrain from swamping my junk...

I don't like to swap mine but at Red River Gorge sometimes it's unavoidable!

RTV and 5 coats of spray plasti-dip. When the starter fails, all of this peels off
like sunburned skin.
If you do not like that it can peel off. Try Grainger for "leak stop" spray by Rusto
gray and or green and RTV

Damn that may well work, I'll give it a try Thanks Rustynutz!

Starter would be the least of my worries here--your diffs/knuckles will suffer way more damage unless you clean them thoroughly afterwards-(drain/flush clean/refill)you can get a new starter for $50--not so for the diffs or the front knuckles.
