After parking outside all summer my lab managed to chew through both of my rear mudflaps and one front one. I remember seeing a while back that people had trimmed their mudflaps to a certain point to make them shorter and I was wondering if anyone had some pictures of how they did it and what they used to cut them. I was thinking of cutting them down completely and just putting the caps back on to cover the brackets where they attach to the body. If I did this are there any laws regarding mudflaps, more specifically in Tennessee or Texas and whether or not they are required? If so does anyone happen to have an extra set of non-running board mudflaps lying around for a 96 80? Any pictures or ideas are much appreciated.

The first thing I would do is "take care" of the little fawker that chewed them up.... :ban:

I have some pics of my bobbed trail set on my computer at home. I will try to remember to post them up tonite. :D

Haha yeah the little bastard used to just chew the shingles off the side of the house but moved on to cars. So far she's managed to chew my mudlfaps and trailer wiring. The sour apple spray seems to be like seasoning to that dog. The bobbed set is exactly what I'm thinking I'd love to see what they look like.

chewing can be a sign of boredom. Go running with him, or get him a friend.

I used a piece of tape to outline where I wanted to cut and used a dremel tool with a thin metal cutter on it. The cutter was a #540 1-1/4" Cut-Off Wheel - see this

It actually melted through the mud flap and then I used the un-cutting side of a hax saw blade to scrap off the melted plastic.

I worked wonderful IMO. :bounce:

Also I live in Texas and the police haven't stopped me over this.

Doc - the dog used to be a hunting dog and is only one of our 5 dogs. Fortunatly she's the only one that does this but she's chewed lights off of boat trailers and just about anything that sits in the driveway.

Lurker - that is exactly what I had in mind just wanted to see how it actually looked and I really like the way it looks. Are your rear mudflaps trimmed the same way? Thanks a lot for the pic.

Sounds like someone needs to visit the pool again. No seriously though... a bullet would fix that problem for ya :D

Have fun back at school... hook-em-horns.

When I did the back ones I just used a piece of 1" electrical tape below the hump and cut straight across. This let me cut about 7" - 8" off of the rear; more sporty than Dans, but not as effective either.

BTW with the Dremel it takes about 1 minute to do each flap.
