Old tech? For sure, but they still work on my GT. Problem is the compound has gotten all sticky and is deteriorating.

Should I replace with SRAM Grip Shifters? Or upgrade to new technology?

And what is new shifter tech...? :o

Thanks

i have never been a big fan of grip shift as they always seem to get accidentally racheted at the most inconvienient time. i like the thumb triggers.

I'd move along to the newer trigger style shifters. I have the SRAM X9 derailleur and trigger shifter on my DH bike. Easy to set up, reliable, and fairly durable (the derailleur has taken a couple good whacks so far and still shifts fine)

I still use grip shifters. They rule. Set up the grips and shifters right and they don't ratchet accidentally. They're not "old" tech as SRAM still makes X0 level grip shifters. Just another relevant option in the world of shifting tech. Use what you like. Triggers, grip shifters, flipper-flappers, thumbies, whatever.

it depend on the type of riding you do. i can't imagine gripshift ever working on a dh bike or a dirt jumper, you hammer hard on landing.
nothing worst then being in a mad session and having a unsuspected gear change. smashed my nees a few times that way.
that being said, i do have a gripshift in my dh bike(fr.deraileur). i'm too cheap to replace something that is in good working order. but this is why i dislike them.

it depend on the type of riding you do. . . *snip*

Bingo. You said it right there. Type of riding. And personal preference. I'm just saying GripShift should not be considered "old technology" or that the "new" generation of triggers are any better. They both work.

I ride predominantly techie XC and endurance stuff and for my application, I still like Gripshifters. But more importantly, I like SRAM derailleur and shifter combos because they seem to work more dependably in cases of crap, mud, sludge, and neglect.

The shifters I like best are *none*.
