We had been thinking of selling my wife's Subaru for a few months now, and as luck would have it, one of her coworkers asked to buy it. So the search was on for a good running, but cheaper 2003+ 100 series. Before I get into the questions, I really want to extend a sincere "thank you" to @dnp who helped answer all the questions I had, and who told me what to look for, values, costs, etc. Thanks man.

This morning, I bought my wife a 2003 100 Series from a guy in Louisville, MS. It had been posed in the CLC threads a week or two ago. The truck has relatively high miles on it (not for a Landcruiser of course), but the price was right, at a mere $7000.

Now, one of the reasons I was able to talk down the original asking price, was that the last major service was performed at 150,000 miles. 130,000 miles ago. 40,000 miles past due.

Besides that, I don't see any real serious mechanical issues. The valve cover seals are weeping, the transfer case has a bit of moisture on the output shaft, and the passenger side CV is slinging a bit of grease.

The good:
Paint and body are in very good condition
Interior is not showing too many signs of wear, though there are some spots on the carpet (can be cleaned)
Engine, transmission, transfer case are all working great and running strong
Every switch, dial, lever, etc. works

The bad:
Rotors are slightly warped and will need to be machined
Gas struts on hood are shot
Only 1 functional keyless entry fob
40k miles past due on major service

The ugly:
Seller said that he had had the rear bumper touched up. From my observation, the bumper looks fine, but the tailgate has a piss-poor respray/body work. It looks fine to most, but to Ole 2-buckets it doesn't look so hot. I think the seller was telling the truth, so I can only assume the original owner had the work done.

So now I need some help from you guys; I know NOTHING about the 100 Series, and would very much love your advice and help in getting things tidied-up for my wife.

First, tackling the major service. Lets talk about parts, and what needs to be performed.
I am thinking I want to:
1. Timing belt, pulleys, etc. (Aisin from Amazon)
2. Water pump (Aisin from Amazon)
3. New Radiator (Denso from Amazon)
4. Cam seals? (Is this necessary?)
5. Heater Hoses (beno for sure)
6. Heater Tees (87248-60460) or replace with brass aftermarket.
7. Thermostat (beno)
8. Thermostat gasket, FIPG, misc.

Am I missing anything?

I know Denso is fine. But is this the correct radiator?Amazon.com: Denso 221-3152 Radiator: Automotive

Someone mentioned the Aisin kit on Amazon with everything I need for timing belt?

Call Beno. He knows exactly what you need and will tell you when/what to buy from him and what can safely come from the aftermarket.

Beno is on vacation. Someone else chime in.

I told him you were out until 8/8/17 .... I guess he is in a hurry.

This.

The conversation started because I was complainting that I only need one little part here and there (under your $100 minimum) and I don't want to call and bother you to ask you the part # for the little protective grommets that go over the brake lines on the rear axle, etc.

And yes, I'm in a hurry considering my wife is driving it and want to get it all squared away asap so I can feel a little more at ease.

But now that I have your attention...(see above)

Not sure if it stands for the hundy, but the Amazon kit had everything needed for the GX t-belt service (was directed there by Onur, 2nd by Rob). Inspect all parts upon arrival and get anything damaged replaced. I was also recommended thermostat, gasket, rad hoses, serp belt, etc. while in there, I got that stuff from Onur. Seems like 49T has been doing a lot of 100 work lately, might check with them as they may have most of that stuff in stock.

Good looking rig.

Also, sidebar on the service interval. I can't remember now, but someone over here mentioned that the water pump would be leaking long before the T-belt is worn out. I just picked the GX up this morning and can confirm this was the case for us. The mechanic said the t-belt was showing very little sign of wear at 130k (original belt), but that the water pump was weeping. So provided the original service was done properly with good parts then you should have some time to get your parts in hand and be ready to do the service.

Think of all the Sequoias and Tumdras out there that no one even remotely considers spending $1200 at the dealer on this service.

(See my sig)

Need to have discussion with said birdie. Sucks that I have no ****ing private life anymore.

I just love getting lectured.

Twice.

Sorry just trying to let a customer know when you will be back in town.
