Cruisin down the 405 Freeway, right along the Seal Beach Naval Weapons Station.

I’ve seen many hawks in the area, as the weapons station is acres of underground munition vaults. Plenty of field mice for the hawks to enjoy I’m sure.

So yesterday, a hawk came at me like a Kamakazi Bomber! I was doing 60-65, the hawk came right at me from the direct opposite direction. I’m not sure how fast hawks can fly, but it struck my windshield like a missle!

Shattered my windshield. Windshield stayed in mostly 1 piece, & the hawk went over my roof & was probably met with the birds-version of St. Peter in hawk heaven.

I only have liability, so insurance isn’t covering the windshield. Dammit!

The best price I’ve seen for the LX450 “bronze” windshield online is $540.86 (oem part # 56111-60070). From LongoLexus.com.

Other option is to just use Toyota glass. Parts.norwalktoyota.com.
$408.54. (Oem part # 56111-60190).
It lists the tint as “blue”.

Would I even notice the difference?
Is the whole glass tinted slightly bronze or blue?

My current (shattered) glass has a blue top strip tint, not sure if original glass. Can someone confirm if it’s Lexus glass?

Obviously I’ll get a factory windshield gasket (oem part # 56121-60100) & 3M gasket sealer tube.

I was able to buy a bronze windshield from RockAuto within the past year for around $300 but it appears they no longer carry the windshield glass :frown:. Before that I had tried to go through Safelite but they couldn't get bronze glass period as it didn't exist in their system. Bronze glass is getting to be pretty rare at an affordable price.

Next time around I will probably just go with the blue tint along the top.

MAKE SURE the glass folks glue the seal onto the glass and then glue the glass and seal into the truck. Watch them like a hawk or they won't do it right, trust me. I've been through this. 80 windshields suck.

You may want to check the roof as well based on the location of the impact, you MAY have a dent in the roof in that area.

I'm pretty sure that your current windshield is NOT a bronze tint because I don't think they had the blue tint available at the top. My factory LC windshield does not have a tint at the top.

I looked at it from many angles. Viewed it across light refractions, felt the area for dents/bumps/dings/ect. The body looks pretty straight, as far as I can tell.

As for the shattered glass, I have no idea if it is original. I bought the rig with 195,000 miles, currently 235,000.

Is the “brine” windshield just tinted in the upper portion where it is currently blue?

I have no idea...

No, the bronze windshield is a completely bronze look from the entire surface of the windshield, not just a band across the top. They are REALLY hard to find, and REALLY expensive. If all you have is liability, this is out of your pocket (unless you can get it out of the Hawk's estate....) Many here go with Safelite, BUT they make sure they have a discussion with the owner / manager that they MUST follow the FSM procedure (supplied by you) and you will supply them with a new OEM windshield gasket. It requires sealant on both sides, I believe....double check the FSM. If they do not follow the FSM procedure it WILL leak..... Let them follow this part of the forum and they will see......

I’m gonna give aftermarket a shot.

I had a place install a new windshield & gasket (aftermarket) today.

It’s raining now & will rain for the next couple days.

I should know pretty quick if the $200 I spent was worth it. At that price, it’s worth it to get it done the same day.

If it fails, I’ll upgrade to OEM bronze windshield ($540) & OEM gasket ($63) & try the pricier option.

Taking pictures while driving down the 405 with a broken windshield is not a very prudent thing to do. You're itching for a bigger repair bill.

Id be fine with aftermarket glass but i would chose an oem gasket. If you research glass topic here youll see the importance if making absolutely sure its done by the fsm instructions. Glue in both sides of gasket. So few places are willing to do it right so it takes searching in most cases to find a compliant shop.

Consider Alfredo’s auto glass in Corona. Reportedly knows and utilizes FSM install procedure. Have seen all positive reviews for 80 series glass install in our local clubhouse.

I bought an aftermarket glass with OEM gasket (about $60)
No problems at all even with these heavy rains.
I think about $250ish cash (for the glass and install), no insurance.
