i'm trying to figure out how to get this awning up on my poverty pack 80 with the round bars and the mega warrior. any suggestions or pics or links of a solution?

basically you slide bolts into the rail on the awning.

best i can figure is to put a 3-4" tall piece of aluminum horizontally inside the megawarrior - locate pairs of drilled holes in it (say four pairs) and to bolt 4 sets of bolts through it with washers on the back side on top of the aluminum bar through the "verticals".

alternatively i am wondering if i should try to convert the round bar to a flat bar and drill down through the flat bar. not sure if there is some kind of yakima product that would help here or if there is another option.

anyone have experience with this? got links or pics? THANKS

I don't have a pic at the moment, but I just added stainless u-bolts to mount mine to the round cross bars. Very simple.
oh. i'd be interested in seeing this.
so you somehow got the long side of the flat L secured to a round bar? and the short leg either faced up or down?

Why not just mount to the basket?
thanks. i went part way down this route.
the issue is that the basket has verticals. and the L shaped - well i would like to eliminate the L brackets.
so i would boot the aluminum track horizontally up against the basket (the sides are straight up and down so this works).
but i was thinking to get a piece of aluminum as tall as the awning track and basically as long and drill holes in that.
then get the nut on from inside the basket over the bolts coming through this new piece of aluminum.
not sure if that makes sense.
anyway, a piece of aluminum that long is about half or more of what the awning cost so i was just hoping to get feedback before i finalize that route.
it would make for a clean install i think but i've never used an awning so not sure if there are other considerations.
anyway there isn't really anywhere to use the two little bars wirh the two holes since there is nothing stable to bolt to.

Yeah, here’s a cropped pic of it. Hopefully this helps a little. IIRC, I notched the L-bracket just a little and ran the u-bolts from the top. I don't think I even used the flat bars that came with the kit.

thanks for this. mounting directly to the bars might be a good route for me.
i'm having a hard time visualizing this a little thought.
i think you had to use the L shaped brackets with the long leg and the short leg?
and then a pair of U shaped brackets with a flat bar and two nuts on the end "captures" the L bracket up against the underside of the round bar?
i guess i can't quite see it yet.
i mean i almost want to find a way to mount the two short lengths with the hole directly to the ends of the round bars wirh some kind of custom piece snd just stick the two vertical bolts through it. and maybe get a third on there for backup.
sort of like this drawing. i wonder is there is an off the shelf yakima part that would clamp on the round bar and let me secure - well i guess i would have to weld it or use the big L shaped piece but trim it up. would be cool to find an off the shelf yakima adapter to get from round bar to this flat vertical mounting part with the holes.

You can get H-mounts or V-mounts from Yakima to mount stuff like that. Amazon has similar mounting hardware too that grips the round bar and gives solid mounting points. I'm going that route with my Napa rack.

oh great. i was trying to explain to someone i would almost just like to mount this flat closer piece vertically.
i still can't quite make out the U bolt thing.

Yeah that would work perfectly with some MightyMounts attached to the round bar, then attach the Napa bracket to the Mighty Mount.

Amazon and ebay have them.

thanks man.
a question and answer here from e trailer seems to say the might mount fits the round bars? but seems to also say they are meant for other bars? anyway do you boot down through it i guess? kind of a shame there is no dedicated round bar mount. they look kind of funky to me?

You want these - they are the older version that fit round bars.

There are also these on Amazon -

THANK YOU. i was just up there looking at these things that hold on the wind deflector on my rack.
so you have no qualms about four of these holding on a awning? i am kind of really thinking to get a third L bracket somehow to have three brackets and three sets of clamps holding it on...

I've used them to hold $2000 bikes on an 8-hour trip, holding an awning shouldn't be a problem. They made locking bolts assemblies too, but those may be tougher to track down.

**Goes to buy a few to mount my awning**
