After doing some research, it's become obvious that my cute little 2.5# fire extinguisher will likely be about useless in case I ever have an engine fire, so I've picked up a 5# unit (and if I find a good mounting solution, will likely pick up a second).

I'd love to find a clean (not ghetto) solution to attach it / them to the OEM roll cage, but am open to suggestions. Mine is a '72 model, so I don't have room on the sides of the seats as many have done on MUD. Interestingly, most every solution I can find online for a cage is for 2.5# (or even smaller!!!) extinguishers...

Ideas? Surely some folks have found clean methods of installing larger extinguishers on their rigs.

TIA,
CA

Quick Fist holds my 5 pounder. Also, I have close to 25 fire extinguishers in my shop and they all, by law and common smarts, need to be serviced or replaced every couple of years. If what Weber Sarge says is correct, then plan on doing the deed every couple of years.

When I had to carry a 20lb fire extinguisher for work we were told to pound the bottom with a rubber mallet every couple of months or so to loosen up the powder. Otherwise, there was no requirement to change it out or get it serviced as long as it was not damaged and still charged. I had mine on my truck for over 2 years; now it is in the garage.

They do have a annual service and a five year service. The annual service does include turning over and taping with a mallet as stated when settled the powder doesn't disperse as well. X2 on quick fists for mounting

Hi All,

I have carried 5 lb. fire extinguishers in 4x4s mounted horizontally on the driver's seat for 15 years. I'm happy to report that one of these extinguishers worked fine on an engine electrical fire despite having ridden many miles in the truck.

I have always used those metal extinguisher wall mounts, will have to try out the quick fist mounts.

Regards,

Alan

OK, just ordered a pair of the Super Quick Fists, I'm going to mount it horizontally somewhere, not sure yet - will figure it out once they arrive. Thanks for all the info, if anyone else has ideas or experience they wish to share, I'm all ears.

Hi all,

I keep the fire extinguisher by the driver's seat so the driver can reach it easily once he/she realize they need one! :D

Never liked the fact powder extinguishers will pack which is why I carry Halon. The benefit of no clean up afterwards is a plus, especially on engine fires.
