Getting ready to replace motor mounts on my 40. Looked at SOR and Toyota for cost est.

What I found is SOR (left pic) shows the rear mounts to be "sandwiched" around the bracket, and Toyota (right pic) shows the mounts to be "stacked" below the bracket. Both pics are suspose to show a 79 FJ40.

Is there a right/wrong way, or???

Hi All:

The pic on the left of the "sandwich" method is definitely the correct installation of this type of engine mount.

Jerry,
I recently put a rebuilt F motor into my '74 FJ40 and went with new mounts. Sandwiched per the SOR parts catalog is correct. I used the disc type (same ones that you see in the picture) for the rear mounts and the newer style one-piece mount for the front that were used in newer (`75-`82?) FJ40s. These work great. In addition to SOR and Toyota, you might want to look at a few other sites (Coolcruiser, FJparts, & cruisercorps) for prices.
Regards,
Brad

Torque

SSCR,

I just redid my mounts. IIRC, there isn't a torque spec. Tighten the castle nut until you can get the cotter pin through. It won't take much torque since the rubber material flexes.

I have a 76 FJ40 and on the driver's side these isolators are sandwiched on the engine mount, but on the passenger side the isolators are sandwiched on the frame and the mount is on top.

Thanks for the replies.

Looks like everyone loves sandwich style. And Colonel, thanks for the difference on L and R.

Just received the new mounts today, Sat. may be get dirty day.
