There is a similar thread in both the 100 and 200 Classifieds Sections, makes sense here too. These trucks are changing hands at a rapid rate these days, having consolidated live market data is a nice thing for both buyers and sellers.

If you have recently bought or sold an 80 series and are comfortable sharing the details, post it here.

I was bidding today on BAT for a very nice white 80 triple locked with 163X miles. I said adios at $37,000. F-ing insane...

You could have mine for $36,999. Also 3x locked.😉
I've never owned an 80 but have always thought they are possibly the best vehicle Toyota has ever made. Not sure where else to search, lots of junk on fleabay and there don't seem to be any good deals on BAT. May have to ride the hysteria out, you would think the high cost of gasoline would help and then those California emission Nazi police....

I pulled out on a CLEAN 94 unlocked with 140k on the local Craigslist for $16k for personal reasons. Seemed like a reasonable deal, even pre-pandemic.

Thanks Landlocked!

That '95 went for $50k. It was a very nice example.

A tale of two fzj80's. Both are black and have miles in the 130k's. Guess which one is gaining the most bids.
The '97 model went for $27k w/o lockers.
The '93 went for $37k with lockers.
So $10k is the spread for locked vs. unlocked, not withstanding the early vs. late model comparison.

I like that spread. lol Hope it continues.

Let's go, Brandon! indeed.
Amazing what 6 cars in a parking lot can abscond with accomplish.

I live in Cape Town South Africa. I recently completed a 10 year project rebuilding everything to Swiss perfection on a
12. 1995 HDJ80R RHD 1HDT NEW Crate Motor with 3100km on the clock. Color of vehicle Emerald Green.
All Toyota factory parts and only Australian modified parts were used. All invoices and documentation history is available.

(GTURBO, Safari Intercooler, Beaudesert Exhaust 76mm, long ranger Australian tank, XXI air cleaner etc etc.

Its always been a dream of mine to build a car back to show room mechanical condition. Being a Master technician from Europe I did everything myself.
The vehicle is also 100% kitted out for touring with rooftop tent, drawer system, lithium batteries, long range tank, water tank, suspension lift 2 inch, gas cooker,
270 deg Awning, etc etc (rarely used as I was living in Europe)

This vehicle is a grey import from Japan to South Africa by a German owner from whom I bought it. I have owned the vehicle for 11 years.
We are planning to relocate back to Europe again and wanted to know from members on this platform if there is a market for buyers in the USA.
Asking price will be in the region of $50 000. This Cruiser is an absolute dream to drive after spending in the region of $100 000 on it.

This was a hobby of mine and will be very hard to let it go but we need to relocate back. European laws are very strict on Right hand vehicles and modified vehicles.

In my 80 search, if it isn't triple locked is that a deal breaker with you guys?

Some guys it seems to be. But obviously not for all, judging by the prices unlocked ones are going for. Someone made a good point awhile back, cliff notes, basically you can put in Harrop or other lockers aftermarket for the price difference and have a better or at least as good end result.

You can always add lockers(harrop, ARB, etc), unless your looking for a collector 80 to resell, then the oem locker option adds to the resell value. When I was shopping for my '94, I bought the cleanest example I could afford, not to resell, but to keep. It doesn't have lockers and I don't care, because I do not need them. If I was looking for an investment level 80, then I would have looked for the oem locker opted one with the lowest miles I could find, then hold on to it until the prices were at their peak and then put it up for sale.

For a recent sale reference... I just sold my 93 "Triple Locked" with 228k miles for full asking price of $17,500. Super clean with no rush dents or dash cracks. Here's a. listing photo attached as well. Great photos and description are vital in selling for a good price outside of BAT. Had new shocks, tie rods and ends and aftermarket wheels. It has some oil leaks, a couple VERY small rust spots around roof rack holes and the seats were a bit worn out. Other than that it was a great 3 owner with clean Carfax.

I had to sell it due to moving and already miss it. I probably will regret selling.

It actually ended up selling in a couple hours off Craigslist. On Facebook I just got a bunch of dumb comments about how it won't sell for asking and people trying to tell me what I "should" have done. Buyers on Craigslist, tire kickers and idiots on Facebook has been my experience in general after selling 3 of these 80's over time.

Chart seems to be right on with prices.

I didn't think yours was priced that high. Clean condition, upfront description, and good presentation helped you get full value. Congrats!

Ya. I do feel like I could have asked more but it might have taken longer to sell. If I had the time I really would have fixed a few more things, waited the 2 months and gone to BAT. Just had to sell it fast.

Great looking rig! Congrats on the quick sale! I agree that it probably was priced a bit low, but you got the quick sale you were after so it was a win win for both parties.
