I'm tired of the thin mounting system on my FJ40, which bends at the slightest stress. Is there a more robust antenna base style? I'd rather have a strong base and rely on a spring-loaded antenna or a fold-down style when driving under low vegetation.

Thanks for any direction.

You could use a spring mount in addition to that, and/or a thicker mount there.

Is that at the back of the rig?

I made my own, with a diagonal brace, and it has held up well. It's mounted on my 4+ spare tire mount, in between the spare and the body/hard top, so it's pretty well protected. I run a Larson 1/2-wave NMO-mount antenna on it.
