As it turns out, i am not running any fuel filter.....

up to what micron filtration is recommended? What's factory?

I am looking at installing a walbro 6065 aux pump and a racor 2 micron heated filter w/ seperator. Is this overkill? do i need to "stage" the filtration (as in run it through a 30 or something first)?

I am little strapped on cash right now, but is there a cheaper suitable set up i can run?

looking to order it up early this week....

the reason to run 2 filters is to be able to filter down to 2 microns and not have filters plug all the time. The first is to get out the big junk and the second all the small stuff. I run a 15 micron and a 2 micron. I have never used a heated filter as winter diesel is always available and never an issue here in Saskatchewan.

The 2 micron only will be fine until you can afford a second. You might find you will have to change filters more often.

Here's my system from the tank forward:

Tank
Walbro 6067 (400 micron? filter/magnetic)
Napa Small inline (28 micron)
Racor 645 (heated, 2 micron)
Fuel Feed Pump
Napa 3393 Stock filter (28 micron? only there so I didn't have to custom make metric banjo fittings to go straight from the Racor to the IP)

My walbro crapped out and I'm now flowing through it and have the racor bypassed so I'm only using the small napa filter and the stock filter unit. No sedimenter.

I'd at the bare minimum put the Napa inline filter in until you get your complete setup.

The Fuel Pump/IP will probably not suck fuel through the 2micron Racor as I discovered a while back. The walbro is needed there. I installed a small pressure gauge (0-30psi) in one of the ports of the racor to measure fuel pressure going to the fuel feed pump.

The only reason I have the racor is so i can heat biodiesel up so i can run it longer during the year. If it were me I'd get a decent filter housing from NAPA and put a good quality diesel truck filter on there and call it good. No need for the Walbro and no need for the small prefilter I use. The only reason I use it is to catch junk released by the biodiesel from the tank/lines. I'll eliminate it after about 10k miles.

www.lubespecialist.com has the best prices on the racor stuff by far....

hope this helps gehn,
mike

Don't take these numbers to the bank...

23303-64010 lists as Fuel Filter-Sub Assembly for a large number of applications that used the HZ and PZ motors.

23301-17___ is the start of the cap on top of the filter (bracket needs to be made, or ordered and adapted to your mounting location). There are very many variations with this part number, dependent on year, mounting location, etc...

You would also need to purchase the drain plug, float switch, and a couple of o-rings to complete the bottom end.

Some filters show a heater assembly as well.

I do not know the Micron filter number.

Best bet is to phone Ens Industrial and price the whole unit, then go from there. They might be able to get the micron level as well.

Back from the Dead...about to order...

I am about to place an order for a racor filter/water seperator assembly. The two units I am looking at are the 445R or the 645R. Questions:

1) Is the primer pump offered in the 445R worth the extra $$?
2) What about the heating element? I am thinking this would be useful for VT winters, but does it really make a difference?
3) Finally, would the 10 micron element be the best for general purpose? It would be the only filter for now. I figure 30 might be too large, and have heard that a 2 micron filter would require an additional pump? Is that correct?

Thanks...

Gehn,

Unless you have the stock Toyota pump or are running a pusher electric pump near the tank you will need the primer pump for the 1HZ. I'd get the heating element just for the peace of mind. Once you buy the unheated one, can it be added later?

You'll want that primer pump when it comes time to change that filter. You can either fill the new filter with fuel and fumble FK your way around installing it again, or install it and prime your way to happiness and prosparity!
