More headroom in a GX470? (1 Viewer)

I know, I know, MORE headroom? Yes, I'm freakishly tall. I've driven a couple of 470s in the last week and I love the truck... quiet, powerful, capable. Unfortunately my head touches the ceiling even with the seat all the way down and leaned back more than usual. If only Toyota had made them without sunroofs!

I've noticed that there's lots of empty space underneath the stock seat... has anyone used a custom bracket to lower the back of the seat? I also have a Scheel-Mann seat in my 60 that could come over to a 470... could I expect to gain some headroom with that conversion?

Get an LX. It’s not the truck for you. There are a bunch of electronics under both seats.

I had the same issue in my old 3rd gen 4Runner (sunroof model). Ended up selling it mainly because of head room. Head was always in contact with the roof.

The GX sucks for leg room too. No fixing that. I’m only 5’11” and I can’t straighten my legs with the seat all the way back and down. One of my few complaints about the rig.

4runner seat are mounted lower. You probably can swap the rail but not sure how much you would gain. I don't have issue with head room but I feel it sits too high. Especially the rear.

I can sympathize. 80 series barely has adequate headroom for me (6'5"), and it's about the same as the GX. Legroom is unacceptable, so I bought the Landtank extensions.

The solution for OP (How tall are you?) must be to swap out power seats for a manual seat sitting lower.

I’m 6’7” with lots of torso, apparently. I haven’t driven an LX/100 but I don’t expect headroom to be any better than a GX. The FJ Cruiser is the only car I’ve ever been able to look straight through the windshield in, I just can’t get myself to like the styling!

Wow you're right. I was actually thinking of the LX570 when I posted that, as they are somewhat similar to a Tundra. Even the 570 has less than the GX... I could wear a 10 gallon hat in my Tundra, gobs of space.

Seat Jackers may help a little but probably not enough for you. I am 6' with long legs and they help get to a full recline driving position if you like that sort of thing. With these installed it's closer to my IS350 and an 05' vette I used to have.

Planted makes a seat bracket for scheel mann seats. I helped create the template. You could likely contact them and have them make a shorter bracket. I suspect you could get 2" lower on bracket alone if you don't have an amp, etc. I love my Scheel Manns in the 470 and I do feel like they gave me more room. OEM seats suck anyway!
