TODAY EXPERIENCED THE DISADVANTAGE OF LEAFSPRINGS !:crybaby:

1 TIRE IN THE AIR AT A SUPER EASY BUMP AND STUCK !:frown:

iS THERE A WAY TO GET MORE FLEX TO LEAFSPRING LANDCRUISERS ? OR TO PREVENT 1 WHEEL TO HANG IN THE AIR ?

Front locker will pull you through that problem of stuck

Hi All:

Spring packs over the axle tube swap (SOA.) :D

Use the "search" function and look for what Lowenbrau did to his BJ74.

Good luck!

Spring Over Axle conversion is a BIG job! Wouldn't recommend unless ur a steel fabricator or something of the like! Easy way to get more flex from leafs is to remove 1 or 2 of them. The shortest ones are the stiffest.

add slip plate between the springs
longer shackles
longer shocks (most overlooked restriction on "kits")
don't over tighten the mounting bolts at the pin and shackle ends. too tight and the rubber or urethane bushings restrict the movement of the springs. add a bit of grease to the ends of the bushings to allow better movement.

pick your line better. know your limitations.

softer air pressue in the tires help a whee bit.

oke thanks all for the realy helpfull reactions !

im gonna do some home work ! (and try to get the antique warn m8000 that came with the car working):wrench:

What are good front lockers for a 1988 bj73 3b ?

none ... unless you like to get greasy on the side of the trail replacing the birfs
or
factory elec in my books.
<i have had great luck with the lunchbox lockers>

Maybe find a oem cable locker from the 60 series, together with birf from bobby long (longfield superaxles). This is my setup together with 37 " tires... Doing some serious off-road and no problems..

Hi buschmaster, my beth would be japan... There were a lot of 60series with the optional cable lockers.

Yes, i regeared the axles (ring pinion) for two reasons, firts to get stronger material en second to run 37" tires.

The speedo now equal to the gps..

the 70 series, 60 series and 40 series cable locker center units are the same ...
or
80 series rear elec locker is another option.

Hi crushers, you're absolutly right, but if you use the 80 series electric locker, use it at least ones a week. In our climat, the steel axle and the aluminium housing of the actuator wilt corod together.

Think the bullet proof option of the cable locker is more durable... And the 60 series cable locker is most likeley to find.

Together with the 4.88 ring/pinion its a superb strong diff.
