For kits like raptor liner and monsta liner....

I currently have the tintable monstaliner kit that I plan to apply to the bottom of my 40 tub. I have read that a texture gun used for interior walls of a home works great and have purchased one. I have since found a schutz gun locally. I have a few questions.

1. do I need a pressure regulator and some type of dryer filter with a shutz gun? and does it have to be reduced at all for spraying(I assume no)?

2, Has anyone used a home texture gun. Is it worth me returning this gun and buying a shutz? Advantages I can see are that the hopper is on the top and Would be much easier to fill than the smaller cans that go on the shutz gun.
Here is the texture gun I refer to:
Textured Paint Spray Gun

I already have the ear plugs for filling bolt holes while I paint. Does anyone have any more tips?

The Schutz gun is only about $20 but you also need to buy a air regulator for it which is under $20. So about $40. A compressor that small isnt going to cut it. I dont remember the CFM requirements but I know its quite a bit. Spraying the bed liner is easy, much easier than any paint/primer with a gun.

since the shutz is an entry level gun, will it be that much better? than a texture gun?

reducing:

It looks like magnet paints reduces theirs with MEK.

I really think I am going to spray and decide how I like the texture. I will definitely need the spray to get into the hard parts of the underside of the tub. I may roll for the final texture after it has been laid down with the gun. Its only the bottom of the tub, so this will be a good test before I do the inside of the tub.

You can buy the Raptor Liner kit with the Schutz gun for cheap ($123). I sprayed mine with a Schutz and it was pretty easy. I did have a regulator and a water filter at the compressor.

This is off Magnetman's site..

MONSTALINER™ can be sprayed using a simple shutz style undercoating gun and a compressed air source. By regulating air pressure between 20 and 80 PSI at the gun, a variety of surface textures can be achieved. Prepare truck bed as per previous instructions. Spray 2 to 3 medium wet coats allowing 2 to 3 hours cure time between coats.

I have a kit waiting to be used but, I will be using the roll method.

Thanks!

I may have to buy a beter compressor to do this. I was most worried about using the gun to get in the crevices under the body to seal out water. There are many areas a roller and a brush wont get to.

I too, will probably roll the inside of my tub. I have a 2 gallon kit sitting ready to go. My neighbor has been holding me up for weeks while he welded in the new floor.

What size tank is your compressor?

I have a 2 and 5 gallon compressor right now.

My grandfather just passed away a few days ago, so I will be inheriting a pretty new CH compressor that looks to be 20 gallon.

It looks to be a slightly older version of this compressor, but might be a little better. The motor setup on his is on the top.

Magnet man, can you give me the tips on diluting with MEK?

Sorry to hear about your grandfather.

I'm updating my spray instructions, will post shortly. What spray gun are you using??

That 20 gal unit is perfect. For anyone else wondering, smaller compressors will wind up running more continuously to supply air. Excess running is what causes more condensation to accumulate in the tank not to mention that you will have pressure drops making it difficult sometimes to get consistent spray. A moisture trap should always be used regardless of compressor size. Always drain the tank of any water after you run the compressor for long periods

Thank you. I am going to just buy a shutz gun after all since I found one locally. I will return the texture gun i bought at harbor freight.

I thought i wads going to roll when i bought the two gallon kit from yall, but I have decided to at least spray the bottom. There are so many nooks and crannies, that only the spray gun will get in on the bottom.

Since i have ordered the kit, you have come out with several beige colors that match my color well, so i may order the monsta shade. This way if i ever have to touch up, it should be available as a consistent color.
