I have been told there are several spots to camp 4-5 miles west of the eastern Mojave Road trail head. I want to camp as close to or near the eastern trail head because I am meeting a group at the AVI Casino. Anyone have GPS coordinates for some of the campsites and or more info? I'll do a Google search next.

Thanks.

Didn't see anything when we passed through, but that doesn't mean there aren't spots. Nothing really stuck out to us though. It was also 7am and we were just starting the trail, so who knows i might have never noticed.

Thanks Dave, I didn't think there was anything official but thought I would ask anyway. I checked your trip report on your website for pics but since most everyone runs the trail east to west I didn't expect to find anything. That's a great website by the way. I always enjoy your stories and pictures. Your dog is too much! :D

~ 3 miles in from needles highway west of the 1st pole lines there is a couple of primitive spots before the fence boundary. The trail turns left from the pole lines around there so just go right down toward the creek and you should find them. Used to be able to drive on some of the side spurs around there but they where marked off when we visited last year.

At the second pole line across around granite springs ~ 6 miles in there might be more spots if you hike a bit off the trail.

When do you plan on going?

Brian

Thanks so much, love the instructions!

I am heading out tomorrow about 1:00PM. I'm meeting a group of 15 rabbit's (FJC's). I don't like big groups too much but this should be fun. :)

Kevin I stayed at the campsite you provided info on. It was perfect, thanks man.

I headed out to the Mojave about 1:00PM Friday. The 15 was barely moving so I took a quick run up Lytle Creek before heading back to the freeway. The run out towards Needles was surprisingly beautiful, the desert is really looking spectacular this year.

Said hi to the troops on the way.

I had picked a spot recommended by a friend. It's just south of the Mojave Road Trailhhead on an old P.G&E road and it turned out to be a great recommendation.

Later that night Steve made it to the site and we shared some beer, hot dogs and a nice fire before hitting the sack around midnight. I slept under the stars and it was a beautiful night.
