it would look a bit more symmetric if i trimmed both of them. i did not trim the rear bumper because it has not popped off despite the abuse (according to the dealership i bent/broke one of the bumper supports).

i ended up buying american adventure lab. definitely regret buying it vs building my own platform. i bought it thinking it would be easier to install vs building something from scratch. that has not been the case. i do not recommend buying american adventure lab's platform.

here are the issues i've had.

* wrong hardware
* replaced wrong hardware with more wrong hardware (so they must not know what hardware is required on the gx 460)
* had to drill out a hole in one of the rails that mounts to the body due to misalignment
* had to drill out access holes in the rails (the hole was designed for hardware that was not provided)
* impossible to get all the screws lined up to the rails (eventually i gave up)
* no documentation of any kind

pic of the wrong hardware. the bolt on the bottom is the stock bolt that mounts the 3rd row seats to the body. let me know if anyone knows what it is. they were supposed to give me that bolt but with a hex head.

while i regret buying this particular platform i do not regret removing the 3rd row seats. it adds quite a bit of space and lowers the deck for my dog.

finally got around to testing out the gamiviti roof rack. strapping down the gas can with some rubber underneath worked well. my plan is to use the rack to store dirty stuff (gas, shovel, maxtrax, fire wood) outside of the vehicle.

heading down to jawbone station.

gamiviti has the best customer service of any of the retailers i've bought parts from so far. i have no idea how tim is able to personally take calls and customize orders. he also has great documentation on how to install his components.

I consider it the only rack if you like the old school overland look and yes Tim is great to work with.
When I got mine I asked if I could get the template for the fairing so I could make a clear one for mine to go in front of the light bar, and had no problems sending it to me, which I drew on my SolidWorks software and and made my own polycarbonate fairing.

I feel like this is actually the most useful feature of a good aftermarket roof rack and it gets overlooked because everyone thinks they want a roof tent. It's not a truck bed, but if you have the right combo of straps/bags/carriers/attachment points you can fit a lot of stuff on the roof that you wouldn't want inside the cabin.

trimmed my rear bumper. i used an oscillating saw this time which provided a lot more control over an angle grinder.

i was originally going to cut on the upper line but it seemed way to high.

there is a rear clip that needs to be detached along with 4 screws. i need to figure out a better place to put these wires. let me know what folks do when they put on a metal bumper.

trimmed a little more to make the line strait.

i'll try to take better pics on my next trip.

my wife and i have decided to upgrade the suspension after our trip to joshua tree. the stock suspension leaves something to be desired when driving in the desert. we are tentatively planning on going with kings (because my wife prefers the color blue) with a 1.5" in front and 1" in the rear. the priority is ride quality over gaining ground clearance or improving off road angles.

i plan on getting the shocks from accutune or filthy motorsports. let me know if anyone has had any experience with them good or bad. i'm leaning towards accutune because they are close enough for me to drive to if i have any issues.

I've used Off Road Warehouse a couple of times to rebuild my front Icon shocks, and to that end, they've been a very good company. The first time I had them rebuild the front shocks, one of them started leaking just after the 6 month warranty, but they still honored it and rebuilt it again. I appreciated that.

@r2m did you drop the vehicle off for the rebuild? or did you only send them the shocks?

i've heard that icons default to being digressive. did you have them tune them so they are linear?

I helped a buddy put basic Icon 2.0's on his Tundra and they road awesome. Super compliant, almost cushy, around town but handled bumps/washboards/etc pretty well. However lots of people on here did indicate they need frequent rebuilds - as short as 15K. It seems that the more basic rebuildable shocks (Dobinson's, Ironmans etc) go longer without rebuilds. The Icons really do ride amazing though.

Where I live now, I don't have the space to R&R shocks (or much anything else that gets oily/messy), so yes, I did drop off my rig and got it back next day.
Note you'll need to make an appointment with them. Depending upon how busy, you may be able to pick it up same day.
I just had them build them back as I had them before. Don't really know if they were linear or not.
Make sure you make your appointment at the CORRECT location. Last time I called in my appointment, it was at another shop, but with a little finagling the shop I meant to use was able to squeeze me in and still got it done by next day.

american adventure lab sorted out the issues i had with their platform. i dropped the truck off at their shop for two days. they were able to resolve the fit and hardware issues i was having. apparently i bought one of the first two platforms they made for the gx 460.

also little did i know that they designed it to fit with the two side thingys. i'll try to take a picture with them installed at some point.

installed a kings lift kit from accutune.

front coilovers: 2.5 kings with adjusters (25001-243A-EXT)
front springs: 700lbs king
uca: accutune
rear shocks: 2.5 kings with adjusters
rear springs: dobinsons 1" (C59-599c)
dr kdss: front sway bar adapters and rear kdss spacers

pre-lift measurements:
front: 19 3/4"
rear: 21"

post-lift measurements:
front: 22 5/8"
rear: 22 1/8"

the accutune uca helped move the front wheel forward 5/8". i did not expect to get this much lift in the front. my front shock length is ~18 3/4". according to accutune the max shock length with a 3" lift is 21" so i am well under the max.

the ride quality seems about the same on the street. i'll get to test it out in the desert in a couple of weeks.

Bouncing it around a bit will help soften the suspension, also if you add any armor/weight, the ride will really get plush.

> Time for some new rubber!
i need to get some more life out of my current tires before i can justify buying a new set.

general observations:
i was able to test the shocks out on a railroad maintenance road, el camino del diablo, anza-borrego, joshua tree area, and imperial dunes. at high speed it is an order of magnitude better than stock.

# slow speed driving
* large rocks or ditches are not jarring

# washboard
* less vibration in the cabin

# high speed
the shocks start to get into their own element when you start to drive over 30mph. it's useful to put the adjusters on full firm when going at speed over big whoops. i was limited more by my front bumper than the shocks. the bumper would dig in on a big hit before the shocks bottomed out. at this speed the shocks feel pillowy.

it doesn't look like i lost any articulation based on my recent max flex pics

Anza Borrego/Joshua Tree are great places to vet shocks! Plenty of washboard, rocks and sand.
We were just out there last weekend for the super bloom, but we think it was still a little early. We'll try again in a few weeks.

it was my first time to anza borrego. i went to the mud caves, diablo drop off, and sand canyon. i was a bit underwelmed. i thought it would be a prettier based on the number of people who were there.
