Mobil1 Synthetic ATF instead of Mobil1 5W-30 … oh bugger! (1 Viewer)

Regular oil replace … grabbed the wrong box … 3.5 quarts of ATF into the engine before spotting the label wasn’t what it should be … immediately drained and filled new oil filter removed … assuming as far as eff-ups go, this is pretty low on the severity scale (hoping). How many flushes of new 5W-30 before I’m exonerated do you think? Tx chaps

If you didn't even start it, I would just put in the proper oil and leave the filter. Honestly I personally wouldn't flush it either.

I would run it up to temp and flush it once for peace of mind.

no issue I'd think, ive heard of people using atf mixes for engine flush anyways

i'd flush it once after a few days, just be glad you didnt start it up

I worked at a transmission shop and knew several guys who swore by using ATF mixed with the engine oil to clean out the motor when doing an engine flush. Like 4 quarts oil and 1 quart ATF. Ive never done it but seen it done many times. You will be fine lol
