The middle dome light in my 2000 stays on when in the "door" position regardless of if the doors are open or cloesd. The back dome light goes out when the doors close. Any ideas?

Physically check each door switch in the door jambs.

Door jamb switch works fine (because the back light goes off). I need to check the switch in the light itself.

My ceiling light switch gives me problems too...sometimes works sometimes not. But I just keep putting up with it

A possibility if you are saying the Rear door jam switch works fine.
The rear door switch turns the rear and front light (middle) on and off.
The front door turns the front(middle) loght on and off.
So you may have a stuck/faulty front door switch.

Thanks 100 TD, I went out to check that--the courtesy lights all go out when the doors close. So it seems all the door switches are working. I took out the dome light assembly, probably need to check it with a voltmeter.

If you haven't checked this yet, remember one thing. The light gets its ground only when installed, one of the mounting screws contacts the metal plate built into the lamp.

And yes, those switches can go bad. When you pull it apart the BB part of the switch may fall out, so watch it.

I nominate myself for the douche bag of the week award. Turns out, as you all probably know, the back light goes out immediately, but the front light stays on for a bit so you can get the key in the ignition (or get my short bus helmet on and start licking the windows). It goes out if you wait long enough #$@!

HA! It takes a big man to admit that......we've all done stupid things. You could have weaseled out of it and said that you fixed the fetzer valve with some ball bearings, 3-in-1 oil and some gauze pads.

Changed out the blinker fluid, got some new flight line and installed some reconditioned fallopian tubes - problem solved.

I nominate this thread for thread of the year. Thanks......one reason why all my cars I always set that interior light NOT to come on when you open the doors.
