I have had several requests for more information on a campground in Mexico, so here it goes. . .

One of my favorite places in Baja is Guadalupe Canyon. This is a beautiful palm oasis situated atop a geothermal spring, just East of the central mountains (Sierra Juarez) about 25 miles South of the border.

Travel is over (good quality) paved roads except for the last 30 miles which consist of hard packed lake bed (when dry) or graded dirt road if the lake is muddy. Both roads join as you progress toward the canyon and deteriorate to a combination of sand and river rocks. Nothing technical; 4 wheel drive not required, but some ground clearance helps (stock 2 wheel drive pickup and SUVs are fine).

Each campsite has its own concrete and rock hot tub, palapa, firepit and running hot water (~120 degrees). Some deluxe sites have fireplaces and sinks built in to the palapa.

Check out the link for more information: http://www.guadalupe-canyon.com

I personally find Arturo's camps my favorites, but Mario's have really been improving lately.

Peak season is November to May (summer is just too dang hot). I try to go down twice a year; usually in March/April and October to avoid the crowds.

I'll try to find some pictures when I get home tonight and post them up.

Feel free to ask questions, I would love to plan a Cruiser trip!

very nice!

rather expensive for Baja, though...

I would love to go, haven't been to Baja since i was a kid and now that i'm building the expedition rig... im so there. If you get a run together to go camp there let me know.

It would be cool to run down to San Felipe one day during the trip.. dang i used to dig that place.

I assume the rates are in pesos, so conversion is ~ 10:1. Not too bad for what you're getting.

The place looks cool, it appeals to me as a geologist, off-roader, and general outdoorsman. I'd love to get in on this trip. I can study up on the area and give the group a geologic tour via CB radio.

Let's do it Boyd!

EDIT: Upon further review, site says prices are in US dollars. However, these appear to be group camps, with a few to several vehicles per site. Take a look at the campsites, this place is like a resort! I'm still in, the wife wants to go this weekend!

Hey Dan, When are you guys planning on going? My g/f and I maybe up for the trip.
Thanks, danny

I'd like to see if we can get a SoCal 80's group trip together. Not sure about everyone else, but I'm pretty booked until January. Maybe we can make this trip around Valentine's Day .:princess: :flamingo: ;) ;) :shotts: :shotts: (wink wink, nudge nudge)

Hmm, I wonder how often they clean the hot tubs.

Dan you just gave me the shivers. I am no expert but as I recall it takes alot more than 120 degrees to kill bacteria and viruses. ;p

Yeah that's a pretty bad image i just got in my head. I was a pool man once long a go and eek is right on

But a bottle of tequila ought to take care of what the water temp don't, right?:hillbilly: :skull:

There you go, if we get our etoh level high enough in our blood that should do the trick. A pre-empive strike. :D I am glad Boyd threw this out, would make a cool SoCal 80's trip.

That's why I asked Boyd for the info. We talked about it at SnT and it sounded like a blast.

I've already got a trip planned for Feb 22-25 to Anza Borrego. I'll have to check my troop calendar for our ski trip dates in January and campouts in March and April (these two I'd skip for this trip to Mexico!). No dates floated for the Norcal DV trip yet either and that's on my radar big time. Sorry to two time you guys, but.......:flipoff2:

:crybaby: Is it because you think I'm fat?

Maybe your mistress, er, NorCal group will want in on this trip as well. I'm sure Pres. Doug is lurking around here somewhere and will chime in shortly.....

I just don't do goats....or sheep......or cows.......or pigs.......or dogs........:flipoff2:

LOOOOOOOONGGG way for the Norcal guys to drive. Sac to here is 8+ hours w/o LA traffic. Tacking on another 5 hours of driving would be a killer. Let's see what we can come up with first.

They do a very good job of keeping the tubs clean. After each group leaves they drain and rinse the tub, then spray down the surfaces with bleach and let it dry.

The only time I would worry is if you are very closely following another group. Even then, I don't really worry. I just drain the tub myself and give it a hot water rinse.

If you're lucky, nobody was in the camp before you arrive and the tub is prefilled for you - no waiting. :D

I have been there several times and love it!

Prices are in Pesos, but WELL worth it if you go to the SAN MARCOS camp only, the rest are kinda sketchy and not private at all!

I would love to go back and wouldnt mind leading a group

I knew you would be able to throw out some numbers like that.

Sounds like we have an experienced guide in Mangler. This just might work out nicely.

Boyd,

do I see Cindy and lightning's family in one of the san marcos pics?
