Sorry you wont be able to make it Jon:frown:

So @RET2 threw his hat in the ring for your spot, so we will have a drink in your honor!

Hey Justin - I just checked at Recreation.gov and as expected the area is closed... I reckon it's too early to tell if this event will need to be cancelled due to the Covid-19 thing. Looks like they are offering refunds, at the moment limited reservations up to 4-30. Probably need to keep an eye on this at Coronavirus (COVID-19) Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) Recreation.gov - External
Yeah, we will have to keep checking. The area doesn't open up until Memorial weekend anyway, so I'm hoping we get some clarification as to whether it will remain closed due to the plandemic.

So I got some good news and the Ranger District said that it is a 99% chance that Camp Belknap will be opening Menmorial Weekend🤞. I will keep you all posted if there are any updates.

Thats great news. I am most certain I'll be leaving SD on weds and checking out kern river area and spending a night or two there on the front end, before heading over on Friday. Its about ~2 hours away so be a good addition to the trip if anyone is interested in joining me on that leg.

I'll tag along if it's OK

So since we are getting close to Menmorial Weekend I wanted to see if we should to some meal planning to spread out the cooking? We basically have 3 day of meals that we can team up on and maybe do a pot luck on Sunday night? If we want we can team up on breakfasts and dinners and leave lunches up to the individual. I will probably bring a Tritip and maybe do a stir fry in the comal one night? The firefighters have a pancake breakfast on Sunday (but who knows this year). Toss out any ideas!

Here is the GPS coordinates to the campsite 36.141635, -118.600286 We are in spots 11-15, and I claim spot #14, so when ever you show up take whatever spot is available. Its basically 11-13 is one big site and 14 and 15 are right next to it. I am planning on getting up there around 12:00 - 1:00, Nick and Ralph will probably get there sooner since they are going to be camping in Keanville. There is no cell service once you get about 10 minutes outside of Porterville so make any last minute calls before then.

So big guy are you trying to say what happens in Camp Nelson stays in Camp Nelson?

Nice. I'd vote for group dinners, breakfast and lunch maybe on own. Sign me up!

I'm sorry there are a few unwritten rules that we only disclose once we get there!

Looks like there are only a few that has shown interest in the last few weeks, are the rest that signed up still planning on coming?

Good question, I assumed since no one has said they weren't going to make it, that they were? If anyone isn't planning on making it and want to give up your spot to an other member please make arrangements so that those who want to make it can still get in.

Saw a note about "no trailers" allowed at the campsite. Also, looks like there's a no-fire ordinance for sites below 5k ft (this one is at 4,800  ) - has this been the case each year or are fires allowed since it's a developed site? All that just as a heads up for packing!

I saw the fire restriction, but we have always had fires in the campsite. I think it just applies to dispersed camping. Definitely no trailers thought, not much room to turn around even with a full size vehicle.

@slickdealmike did say he won't be able to make it this year and offered up his 2 spots to any takers?

Right! Who else is going to bring the 7 cases of Modelo:beer:

Called the kern river area, where I am planning to go a few days before, sounds like a crap shoot over there, camping is technically prohibited unless you are in a self contained RV, I asked if a land cruiser with a fold out crapper meet those requirements, they could not say for sure. They are supposed to ease closures starting the 16th, but that was also supposed to happen on the 1st. Either way going to head out that way and figure something out.
