Hey Guys,

Not new to forum, finally activated my own account. Swapping in a 350 and need motor height measurement over frame rails. Planning on making my own mounts. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance,

Why reinvent the wheel? Advance Adaptors makes the SBC motor mounts, and they're adjustable for offset (the engine is offset if you didn't know). Save your fabrication skills for whatever bellhousing, transmission and transfer case you're running.

very cool lil john thats exactly what i needed thank you guys

Offset in an FJ40...

If you are running the stock transmission and transfer case, they are offset, so unless you move them, the engine will be offset as well.

If you are replacing the engine, transmission and transfer case, you have a blank slate.

I just finished up my install using a Mark's adapter and the Firestein (Matt Bier) mounts. Was really a simple process and no welding.

I used an AA style motor mount and hated them. While they are only $150, when the donuts where out, they are $50 a pair to replace. I went Firestien motor mounts my second V8 conversion and custom on my Vortec conversion./QUOTE]

I use the LC donunts from the rear mounts, they're more substantial. Been like that for 24 yrs.

We need more info so that we can help. What tranny do you have (4 or 3 speed) and what bellhousing adapter are you using. Advanced adapters has a free booklet along with Downey that you can order and they are both loaded with great info. If you have a 4 speed and an advanced adapters bellhousing you can find plenty of info on my build thread. MOST OF IT is what NOT to do but it is loaded with measurements and you should also find measurements in regards to engine height. BUT it also depends on how low or high you plan to mount the crossmember or I should say the transfercase.

well im swaping the tranny to a turbo 350 and using the original 3 speed transfer case the motor is hanging in the cruiser right now and it seems like it will sit offset twords the drivers side just slightly. thanks for all the imput guys

I am clueless when it comes to the turbo 350 install in an FJ40 (havent done it) but I can imagine it is long and just an FYI you can cheat and move your radiator forward about an inch or so. This would give a bit longer driveline and your engine that much further from your firewall. If you view my pics I would lift my motor about a 1/2" because I just barely cleared the bottom radiator hose with the large mechanical fan. Not gospil or a must just giving my 2 cents

ya its defenetly pretty long but i have flipped springs so i think drive line should be ok and ya i moved the motor up to clear lower hose also. everything seems to be looking good so far. thanks for the imput guys i cant wait to have it back on the road i miss it.
