OK, I'm stumped on this and to make things worse it's a little bit time sensitive. I am very close to closing a deal on a 2000 model landcruiser with only 40,000 miles that is in phenominal condition. BUT! The only key it comes with is a non-remote key. I have called around to a couple dealers and getting a remote key and having it programmed seems to run about $250-$300.
My concern stems from reading on another forum that if I don't have an original "master" key I have to replace some extremely expensive computer things before I can have a new key made. Any truth to this? I've asked the dealers but can't seem to get a straight answer. I want this truck badly but am afraid that a good deal could turn into a nightmare over this key issue. Thanks for your help!
