Hey folks, I'm blocking my calendar for the weekend of 15th - 16th

I'll assume we want a moderate/family run, with minimal risk...

I will also include a brief side-trek for those who want a thrill :hmm:

More details soon...

Excellent! We could use a cold weather specialist on the team... ;)

Table Mesa Trail (FR-41)
March 15th or 16th (please post your preference)
~8 hours, , bring food and water!
Depart from I-17 and Table Mesa Rd @ 8AM

This moderate trail crosses from I-17 north of New River to join Camp Creek Road to the north of Carefree. The western section of the trail crosses through a mixture of private property and state trust land. Access across the private property is granted under the Sportsman-Landowner Respect Program. Please respect the landowners’ property; access can be revoked at any time. To travel this trail, a state land permit is also required. Special Attractions: Agua Fria National Monument and Agua Fria River; Panoramic views of Bloody Basin and the surrounding mountains. High-clearance 4WDs are required. This trail has either a rough, rutted surface, rocks up to 9 inches, mud and deep sand that may be impassable for inexperienced drivers, or stream crossings up to 18 inches deep. Certain sections may be steep enough to cause traction problems, and you may encounter very narrow shelf roads with steep drop-offs and tight clearance between rocks or trees.

There is a quarter mile side trip, near the west end of the trail, that lands you atop a nice cliff overlooking New River. High winds and eagles are common here. Most choose to park and hike up for the view, but there is a nice sandy notch that will test your skill if you really want to drive up...

The majority of this scenic route lies between you and the next obstacle, the bumpy-bumpy Road-17... The narrow, one-way, boulder strewn shelf road cannot be hiked easily. If you want to stand on the highest cliffs, view Black Mesa, drive the New River Mesa ranch roads... You're going to have to wheel it! The ugly part is about a half mile long...

Then it's back down the hill, past the observatory, through Seven Springs and CareFree for a club dinner at El Encanto in Cave Creek!

Trust me, you'll be ready for a cerveza and a Pollo Fundido by then... ;)

I always mark the trail with margaritas, so I can find my way home...

Saturday sounds good to me too. I should make this run! :steer:

I'm hoping for some rain and nice spring bloom! (No, I'm not drunk, and I don't want a hug)
