All,

I figured I'd start the thread to announce our trip to Gulches ORV, in Laurens, SC on March 20-21, 2010. Hope everyone has seen the calendar, and has made plans to go!

Gulches Off Road Vehicle Park

Check out the website, as their events calendar announces the first day of spring, they're open from 10am to midnight, so it's a good day to go...

I was contacted by a Upstate Rep., and they have shown interest in joining us to Gulches, and Fourtrax is going to help me out with some of the groundwork for this trip. More info to be posted as it is available.

I should be down for this.
I keep hearing great things about gulches and they do have some awesome rock races down there.

We have been to the Gulches several times and always have had a good time. It is a small park, about 80 acres but set up very well. Basically it is set up on a big hill side and has a main trail on both sides.

You run the main trail down to the creek area and then pick a trail to climb back up the hill. There are some ver challenging trails there. After I took my FJC up Heartbreaker I was informed that I was the only FJ to ever attempt it let alone make it through. Cost me a caved in suicide door on the passenger side. Dont miss Rebel Blvd either, very cool little trail.

There are also so very intense trails there only suited for buggies, although we have seen some crazies try them in a Cherokee. He lost a rear axle.

If it is wet while there be very carefull on the lower end of the park by the creek. There are mud holes there that will swallow you up.

They put on a BBQ for lunch there as well. The owner,Skip, is a great host. The first time we were there we were getting ready to leave and he met up with us and asked if we had done Rebel Blvd and we had not. He hopped in his Jeep and led us to it and through the trail. We eneded up sitting on the back porch of the office drinking cokes and swapping wheeling stories.
We'll be there

I pretty sure that I will be there as well. Birthday weekend for me!

Can't make this one. I'll be in 1 of 8 sites where the NCAA Tournament is held (haven't gotten my assignment yet), sitting center court about 10 feet from the court, calling out stats. Hard work, but somebody's gotta do it. :D

I'm rallying the UC troops for this ride over on our board. What other details do you need from us? I'll be happy to help.

I am on for this

Not much activity here. I got this back from rick (BMThinker)
Hi guys,
Gulches is a convenient park to wheel because it has two main roads. One at the top and one at the bottom of the property. Most other trails start at the bottom and go up to the top road. There are a variety of difficulty levels and the place is pretty compact, so you're not going to get lost - it really is like a playground.

Most of the campsites we saw were next to each other, and would hold several tents each. I guess if it is expected to be a big weekend for the park, we should try to reserve a few spots.

I'm 50-50. I've got prep work to do before I paint the house, and I can't let it get too late in spring or I'll have pine pollen all in it...

So is the Gulches curse upon us again?

We've got Al, Brett, Stan, Rafael, and possibly myself? Is that it? 5 hour drive from the Raleigh area. Al/Brett would you be up for housing a few if some want to make the trip up down Friday night, and finish the last leg early morn?

Rick, how many from UC are looking to go?

Sounds like Stan can lead the group again. He did such a great job at Harlan...

Brett's not going but I am up to housing some peoples. Got one spare bed but lots of floor space so bring an air mattress and I can house lots.

Sorry guys, I'm out. Apparently I am the guest of honor at my own party on Saturday night...go figure.
