This looks awesome - but it's the boys 1st bday - don't think I can skip that...

Oh, there are plenty of people there, it looks like the Outer Banks edition of Breaking Bad:grinpimp:

Actually there are tons of campers, converted bread trucks, tents, campers, trucks, ATVs, etc there with dudes fishing. We fly over that area all the time looking for chicks in bikinis that are in distress.

It definitely is a super cool place to spend a few days on. There are cabins on the island just south of Drum Inlet with electricity, but tons of place to hang all by your lonesome.

If I'm not on my way to Afghnaistan then, I'm in cuz I'll be definitely gone by the STR:frown:

So I know Jerry's in.

Joe's in...

I'm in...

We need to know so we can plan the ferry ride. $75 round trip out of Atlantic, NC. Jerry can chime in if he's thinking of going with a different ferry.

Plan for severe weather conditions, bring extra gas, be self sufficient. I think most of us are capable of this...

Who else is in?

A few questions for you Brian,

I spoke to you at Darins about being very intrested in going to this event.

When would be the last possible date to be able to commit?Unfortunately planning too far ahead is not possible for me right now.

Does each individual member have to do their coordinition with the ferry folks? I assume this is the case but just wandering as I dont know exactly what you have planned.

What ferry is every one going planning on using and What is every ones rough itenerary?

EDIT

Forgot to ask
I need a clarification. I have never been to the Core Banks but isnt it divided into a North islan and a South island? According to what I have found. North Core Banks is Portsmouth island and South Core Banks is Cpae lookout.
I did a few measurements and North Core banks is about 25 mile from the town of portsmouth to an inlet that splits the two islands. So I am wandering doe the islands ever connect during low tide?
So in the OP it was mentioned that we are going to both is this correct? If so How many days will we be staying at each island? Sorry for all the questions but I am assuming that planning for the ferry rides will have to be reserved as soon as possible.

As some of you know I am moving to Florida this summer so I dont want to miss the opportunity to visit the Core Banks before I go.

As far as committing, you could probably do it the day of, but we're going to make sure the bulk of the group gets on the same ferry. So, you may be on your own depending on when we actually nail down the ferry information.

As far as I can remember, and someone who fishes can correct me, is that the Cape Lookout Ferry only ferries people and no vehicles. The North one to Portsmouth would be the one we would take and return, and even that island is split into two. Not sure if at low tide we could get to the other one, but, Hey! it's an expedition right?

The only vehicle ferries leave from Morris Marina that goes to Portsmouth Island. They have two ferries that can only take 2-3 vehicles each. It's a 20 min ride to and from the island. Yes, I'd like to see if we could get to the island together but there is no reason someone could join up anytime during the weekend.

They can get busy and I was hoping to make some reservations soon to ensure a good time for the weekend. I'd like to be able to eat lunch on the island on Thur and be back on the main land to drive home early afternoon Sun.

I don't believe it's possible to drive across but I plan on driving to the end of the island to see though...

Count me in for this exact plan Jerry! Let me know if you need payment/deposit for the ferry.

If I commit it would be to start with the group and end with the group.
The plan for me would be to get out to the island sometime early on that Thursday and be on the island by lunch time. Leave the island some time in the afternoon on Sunday.

Are we setting up a base camp? Or is the plan to stay at a different location every night? Jerry are you bringing your trailer.

Just post up or pm me when you guys make reservations for the ferry so I can reserve my spot as well.

Thanks
Del

I think this trip is solo for me, so I'll be sleeping in the truck, so if you guys want to do a base camp, it is fine with me.

Anybody fish that's going on this trip?

I am bringing the trailer and also planning on at least trying to fish. I'm not equipped for surf fishing but I'll consult with my father-in-law for his expertise before the trip.

I hadn't thought much about an itinerary or making a base camp. With so few of us going, I thought we'd just haggle it out over a vicious game of beach bocci ball and a beer or two...

Just got off the phone with Morris Marina to make some ferry reservations.

One small problem, they don't open for business until 3/20. In other words, no getting on the island unless we have our own boat until after that.

Time to punt, reload and look for another date...

OK, then let's go for the next weekend... Jerry let us know if that's a possibility for everyone?...

I can't, this date worked for me because of spring break.

I'm bummed since I saw nothing of them being closed on their website nor during the couple conversations I had with them. I did find it on the gov website, says they run starting " mid-march".

Oh well...
