My 92 came with the optional TVSS alarm system. Remotes included but no instructions and the PO did not know how to program it. Did a bit of searching and found some decent links but I would really like to find a manual on the full bit. Especially like to get it out of that annoying passive mode.

I also found this TVSS thread too but the remotes and operation are a bit different. Mine looks like the pic posted in the first link. Remotes are black and look like the RS3000 remotes. Unit mounted under the seat looks like the second link.

Jason sent me a photocopy of his alarm's user manual but I haven't scanned it and loaded it to my web site.

There is a TVSS manual (courtesy of John Holmaas aka Landpimp) and a full set of the RS3000 manuals that consumed a week of my time to retrieve and get loaded. Christo is hosting the RS3000 manuals as none of the free web hosting sites could accomodate large file sizes.

Let me know if you desperately need a different manual and I'll see if the one Jason sent is what you need.

The one Christo is hosting is different. The fob looks the same but mine has an dash mounted switch that is definately different and therefore it appears to have different programming direction.

Slambson,
1. Do you know where your truck was originally sold?
2. You say it has the TVSS alarm; how do you know that?
3. Can you post a clear pic of the fob?
4. I can't read everything on the alarm pic you posted. Please interpret.
5. Can you post a clear pic of the alarm ECU. 4 bolts to remove the DS seat and 1 electrical plug?
6. Do you have a toggle switch somewhere that implies it is to put the alarm in valet mode?

The manual that Jason sent me is for a 1995 Gulf States Toyota "TDS" (Theft Deterrent System) alarm. The sketches of the fob are different than the TVSS fobs so that doesn't sound like the same alarm system that you have. Unfortunately, there are no pics or sketches of the dash or any other part of the TDS system.

Maybe Jason (MoJ) can post up some pics?

1. Do you know where your truck was originally sold?

Nope, no idea how to find out either. Truck was a fleet vehicle in Florida. First registration was in Vero Beach, Florida.

2. You say it has the TVSS alarm; how do you know that?

Assumption, Switch, fob and remote box say Toyota.

3. Can you post a clear pic of the fob?

Yup.

4. I can't read everything on the alarm pic you posted. Please interpret.

I stole this from one of the posts I linked above.

5. Can you post a clear pic of the alarm ECU. 4 bolts to remove the DS seat and 1 electrical plug?

Camera died before I got more pics. I'll try again in a few days.

6. Do you have a toggle switch somewhere that implies it is to put the alarm in valet mode?

Yup.

Here is the switch

Sounds like you have a Gulf States Toyota alarm. Too bad.

PM MoJ (Jason) and see if he thinks that you have the same alarm that he has. If so, I'll scan the pages he sent me and post them or at least post up some of the information you may need. FYI, the "manual" that he sent me sucks but it's better than nothing. That doesn't mean that MoJ did a bad job, just that the manual that Gulf States Toyota supplied with these security systems is inadequate.

Riley,

Does your dash mount look like that one?

Slambson - sorry to respond a bit late - been out of town. The switch for mine is different than what you've posted. I have only a single LED on the dash with toggle switch on the driver's kick panel. The remote illustrated in my instruction manual does not match yours. (I don't have the actual remote) However, if by chance yours operates the same way, it's pretty simple to place it in valet mode. Just turn your ignition key to the "on" position, move the switch to the valet position, then turn the key completely off. Doing this completely disarms mine so that it's not a PITA.

Here's the steps stated in the alarm manual to program a remote. (It's a bit lengthy)

1. Turn ignition key to ON position.
2. Turn Valet switch ON then OFF once. ("the system may cause parking lights to flash 4 times, 2 times, or not all, depending on what state the system was in.")
3. Turn the ignition key to the OFF position, then back to ON position.
4. Turn the Valet switch ON & OFF 4 times. (parking lights flash 4x)
5. Push the button on any transmitter. (horn sounds once)
6. Flip the Valet switch ON & OFF once. (parking lights flash 5x to indicate all transmitters are erased from memory)
7. Push button on transmitter you wish to use. (parking lights flash once)
8. Repeat Step 7 using any additional desired transmitters. (can program up to 4 different transmitters)
9. Exit program mode by turning ignition to OFF
10. Verify transmitters work.

11. shake it twice, drink a beer while standing on one leg. :D

Jason,

how does your alarm module under the seat look like? Does it have switches or buttons? Or has it just the connector? I found one under my PS-Seat with all wires connected but I don't have any dash buttons, lights or remote for it (I love my PO). So I need to find out what kind of system it is. Thanks.

Mike

Mike-
Pretty sure I don't have anything alarm related under the PS (or DS) seat. Just the rear heater stuff.

The status monitor is consistant with an early TVSS. It is not a Gulf States system.

Slambson,
Grab the TVSS manual from my web site. That's got to be the one for your alarm.

Finally got pics. Mine appears to be something in between the two on BEOWOLF's site. The main module appears to be like the TVSS but the fobs are the same as the RS3000. Dash mounted unit is different than both.

Reset and delay switch. Single plug and glass breakage RCA cable

Side panel, glass breakage sensor.

Thats the module I have under my seat. The first dash pic above is my 80. It's a 93.

My manual is different than what's on B's site. I'll dig it out and try to answer your questions by tomorrow if no one else does. If you have more q's post them here.

Btw, I could never get the FOB I ordered from Cdan to work.... it is like the one posted above. I havent given up on it, just havent had the time or interest to play with it.

Ok, I found my manual.....

To get it out of passive mode you want to place it into valet mode.

- Passive arming is disabled when the vallet mode is set.
- The system will only arm with the remote transmitter.

1. To activate or deactivate, turn ignition key to the on position & press the Valet Mode switch until the LED turns on and starts blinking.
2. The LED continue blinking if the Valet Mode is on and all doors are closed.

To erase the current ID code:
1. Turn the ignition key to the ACC position. close all doors hatches and trunk.
2. Press the programming switch on the main control unit (it's the round hole on the unit) for more than seconds.
- The LED on the dash will illuminate for 5 seconds continuously, not flashing.
3. While the LED is on (within the 5 seconds), press the programming switch again for 2 seconds.
4) The Horn will sounds twice and the LED will turn off.
5. The previous ID code is now erased.

To add a new ID code:
1. Turn the ignition key OFF. Close all doors, hatches and trunk.
2. Turn ignition key to the ACC position.
3. Press the programming switch on the main control unit for more than 2 seconds.
- The LED on the dash will illuminate for 5 seconds continuously, not flashing.
4. While the LED is on (within the 5 seconds), press the remote control transmitter button once.
5. The new ID code is now complete and the remote control will now operate the system.

Of course those steps didnt work for me. I succesfully erased the old ID but was never able to get my remote to work.

Regards,
Larry

I used the instruction on Beo's site and it worked on the third try. I had to be quick about pressing the remote button after releasing the programming button. Both remotes work well now.

I also was able to get it out of passive mode right after I posted this using the posted instructions on one of my searches.

1. Key in on position
2. Press and hold the switch in the Valet position
3. Turn key off while still holding switch in Valet position
4. Release switch.

All I know is it worked. Using the stock horns it's kinda loud arming so I switched the switch over to the horn defeat as this direction it is not a momentary switch. Someday when I run out of projects on this think I'll look into wiring in a more traditional alarm horn.

Thanks for the photos. My box looks almost the same but I have no buttons whatsoever on it and no serial no. and no description. Just a plain black box with the same connection (wires) as shown in the photo. It is located in the same place under the seat and all wire disappear under the carpet. What I don't understand is that I have no status monitor in the dash and no remote :'(

What kind of an alarm system is this ??? ???

Mike
