Anyone got a chance to do a side by side comparison between the older manual/cloth seats and the power/leather seats? I seems my 96 seats sit up pretty high, and just aren't comfortable for me. There's a parting-out place that has the older cloth models, and before paying for them, was wondering if anyone has compared. BTW, will they retrofit?

When I was shopping I really wanted cloth---problem was I think I found 4 or 5 out of 100. After more research and lots of test drives I noticed the cloth held up much better than the leather. I believe the leather seat is far more comfortable than the cloth. ;) I ended up with leather..... I had a 00 4Runner and I lowered the rear part of the seat which gave me an extra inch of head room. There is a guy on the board that sells a kit to lower your drivers seat. I think the guy is landtank. Good luck with your solution amigo.

Don't know what you are looking for, but leather is a hell of a lot easier to clean.

As far as the height is concerned, I'm a little confused as to why your 96 seats are uncomfortable.

IMO, the main advantage to the cloth vs leather seats is leg room. You get an extra inch or maybe two with the manual seats.

I know this to be the case with those from the factory with cloth...not if you still get the legroom advantage if you swap cloth in for leather.

Is that because of the motor or is the padding different?

I recall it having something to do with the motor. Don't recall the specifics.

I believe it's the motor. I had a Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited, of course with leather, and the seats sat up higher than in the cloth models, and to me, weren't as comfortable as the cloth models. I don't care about the cleaning as much as I do about temperature comfort (my kids hate em) and all around comfort for me. Cloth seats seem to have a well laid-out seating position to them, as opposed to power models, which I can never find a good position (imagine John Candy in "Planes, Trains and Automobiles").

I like my cloth...and the extra leg room. :D I need all I can get. Leather may be easier to clean but I am very impressed with how well my cloth looks for being 11 years old.
