Hose

We use the Aeroquip blue high pressure hose on the boat all the time. Those press on fittings can be an absolute biotch....

William, you setup that gauge pod yet?

- Jake

i just did it last month..super easy...use gear oil inside the hose and on the fitting and they slide on with firm pressure no vice or pliers, just your hands...

cost was $65

to like 20 min. to install

easy for you to say. I lubed the hell out of mine, still probably ruined both ends putting it on:mad:, it really was like the hose/fittings were miss matched, which I would not doubt.

Dan you can just drill out your stock fill plugs (the early split case plugs are beefy) and tap them for a brass fitting. Then run some oil hose there is ZERO pressure so a barbed fitting is stronger than is needed.

I replaced all of my plugs in everything with the set screw type plugs from Marlin.

I have a local place that I can buy all of the fittings and a hose from. I was hoping to get the Summit # so I could look up the size and go in and get them.

My FJ60 puked oil out of the tranny when I got back from the Land Cruiser Bakersfield Ralley tonight. I don't have time to R&R the T-Case between now and SnT.

I don't remember any part numbers, but I sourced this stuff through a local Napa that carries some hydraulic parts. 3/8 NPT to 3/8 JIC something like this

Then in a classic case of "You spent way too much dummy" I had them make me a high pressure hydraulic hose with 90 degree JIC fittings. The low pressure hose on barbed fittings would have been the way to go on that. I think I spent close to $50 and probably could have got away for well under $30 had I been smarter on the hose.

Cheers,
Butt

i guess i got lucky or im super strong...sucks that you had a **tch of a time

I found it in another thread. It is in the FJ40 section.

$55 seams a bit high.

MAF Oil Return Kit Transmission Transfer Case

my $65 was shipped to the door...i wasgoing to build my own one of the threads i read gave all the parts and pieces sizes thread pitch etc...after trying to part it out the cost savings was only about $20.....now $20 is $20, but for the convience of having it shipped to my door in three days and 15 min to install the right parts for the right job...i felt it was worth it....just my .02

I may buy one set up from them and take the parts down and match them up and make kits for my other three vehicles.

D'Animal: I pulled my transfer tubing set off the shelf and did some measurements:

The fill holes for the transmission and transfer case are 18mm x 1.5 thread size. MAF uses a -8 size hose fittings (sized similar to 1/2 inch OD metal tubing). The fittings to convert from the fill hole to the 37deg flare size -8 are something like this, below. You would need two:

Aeroquip FBM2244 - Aeroquip AN to Metric Adapter Fittings - summitracing.com

Then you need a 90degree elbow to convert from the 37deg Flare to the tubing. There are different types of tubing connectors. MAF uses the socketless barb design. You need two of these in size -8:

Aeroquip FBM1533 - Aeroquip Socketless Hose Ends - summitracing.com

Then you need the -8 hose. My kit came with 14.5 inches of hose. It's seems to be like this hose, but you don't need 20'...:

Aeroquip FCN0820 - Aeroquip AQP Socketless Hose - summitracing.com

You will also need two crush washers same as what you use on the fill plugs for the transfer and transmission. If I add up the cost of the parts I've indicated from the summit web page (using a per-foot charge for the hose), the total comes to about $60. You can probably find less expensive fittings, but maybe not from Summit or Jegs. Summit has their own "brand" of fittings that are less expensive, but they don't have what you need for this job.

How does this fix work for the opposite problem of gear oil over filling Tcase? The fill hole on the Tcase is lower than the fill hole on the Tranny. Right?

The two fluid levels will equalize through the hose & fittings. Which makes me wonder what happens in a long, steep climb or descent.

Using the anodized aluminum fittings always drives up the price. If you go with steel & brass fittings the price can be considerably lower.

The Weatherhead p/n for the -8 X M18x1.5 steel adapter fitting is MC5315x8x18
According to here they are $3.36 each

The hose ends are known in Weatherhead-speak as "Series 100 'B' Barb-tite" hose ends. A straight hose end's p/n is 10008B-608 My book does not show the 90* hose end, which is odd. Called my local vendor (Ventura area of SoCA) and asked them for a p/n. A different mfg, but: JF90-8-8 @ ~$13 each (PM if you want that vendor's name & contact)

The blue hose that I use at work on these fittings is Aeroquip's FC332 hose. I've immersed this stuff in gasoline and in diesel for over a week with no trouble. Normally a hose will carry such fluids thru the center just fine, but doesn't like having it around the outside. I've had it laying against hot turbocharger parts during testing and it barely chars and is still completely serviceable.
BAT sells it for $3.39/foot

Looks like I could build this for about $42 sourced locally.

I don't think it does, unless you overfill the transfer case. The transfer tube is a good fix if the transmission if fill up, but if the transfer case if filling up, I think you have to replace the transfer case seal.

Would not having crush washers on either fill plug cause such a severe leak as to empty both the t-case and tranny in a 60 some odd mile trip (and coat the entire underside of the vehilce from those points and back, including the back window--wind vortex)?

That or if there, but have not recently been made soft again they might leak anyway. They're easy to soften, heat with a propane torch until they change color and immediately drop in water. Steel would go hard & brittle if you did this to it, but aluminum and copper go dead soft.

Sometimes just being done with it and moving on to something more interesting or important has a high value.
