What about parts for the diesel engines in the 7 series? Did the US market ever get any diesels? When parts start to age out, will I be able to go to Toyota and easily get parts? Same question for the transmission.

Parts aren't that big of a deal. Oil filters for the HZ/HD engines are available through your local dealer, along with many others.

The parts you can't get locally can be sourced through a number of different resources. This is what I've done. Plan and prepare, ones like radiator hoses & the like which can be difficult to find substitutes for have been ordered & stored.

shipping is spendy but they are fairly easy to order.

When are they going to release the Tundra box? That is what is coming right?

How about alternators, starters, water pumps.

You can find prettt much everything you need through different US Landcruiser specialists and remember there is a couple of mine truck companies in Canada where you can find everything OEM for the HZJ79

I’ve heard a couple of stories about the Maltec trucks. One imported from Europe with a ‘bad’ VIN number. The other missing the fuseable link and frying the wire harness under the dash. Anyone knows the details?

Regardless, they inspired me to build our FZJ80 that we had as a family car for 20 years. Converted and registered in CA with a 1HDFT/H151 it only has two seats with a bench in the back. I wrote a detailed blog on the build on OverlandBound. We carry 28 gallons of water including 9 gallons running a heat exchange. Shower, sink, fridge, etc.
… and all this including the diesel conversion for about $50k. All you need is a welder and a grinder. 😂

thats a sweet build. Ive been courting maltec looking for a yota all they have is mercedes PLUS my trucks capability level compared to a maltec does give me pause

So is Maltec dead? Their website SSL cert is expired, and their Instagram doesn't have any recent activity. Some cool Euro options but seems like their US offering has amounted to vaporware so far.

Definitely one with a VIN swap.
And another I’ve heard of with very poor workmanship/lying on the mechanical front (things not rebuilt, bolts not tightened, etc). Some issues with the shell as well (waterproofing, holes not siliconed, hatches not weatherproof).
I think if you give them your vehicle and get it converted that might be fine, but I wouldn’t trust them to do the 76/78 body on an 80 series frame thing…
