I've owned a 2016 LC for about 1 year. I now have a message on the dash display that says "Maintenence Required Visit Your Dealer". I do all my own work on all my cars so my pride and frugality prevents me from taking it to the dealer. I have looked through all the digital menus and looked through the user manual. I have no idea what the car wants. Can someone please help me how to figure out what it wants?

Other (maybe) relevant info:
I just aired up the new 275/70r18 Falken Wildpeak A/T from 30 to 45psi. The low pressure triggered a separate warning on the dash.
I installed a 1" lift strut spacer in the front
Installed 1" lift urethane rear coil spring isolator
Performed one oil change (Covid=no commute)

When you did the oil change, did you reset the indicator in the display? Do you know how to do that? I do believe it is in the manual. If you can’t find it let me know. Mine always triggers 5,000 miles after the previous reset. I always reset mine because I don’t change oil every 5K and I also don’t mine to the dealership for tire rotations. So I usually take it in every 7500 miles. (I am a couple hundred miles short of 100K).

Is it on the MFI in the gauge cluster or on your nav screen?

If Nav screen, at least on earlier trucks there are a bunch of maintenance reminders programmable in the vehicle info sections in there. You can set separate reminders for oil, oil filter, air filter, tire rotation, coolant, all kinds of stuff. This is a separate system than the MFI portion.

If in the MFI, mine comes on every 5k, and is mainly to remind about oil changes. Note that if you are significantly after your last oil change, you'll want to remember to do this again after your next one, so that it is coordinated with that work. Otherwise it'll just pop up again the same distance after the maintenance as this time. These are the notes I have to reset it.

“Maintenance required” reset
Switch to trip meter A, shut off ignition.
While holding ODO/TRIP button turn ignition on (but do not start engine)
Will display “resetting maintenance data” or similar with progress bar

I purchased it last November with 61k miles. At about 63k miles the maintenance indicator said something specific like "oil change due". I did reset the oil change indicator at that time. It now has over 67k miles. Oil change is probably getting close but last time I'm pretty sure the maintenance indicator specified oil change. Now it is not specific.

Thank you!

This could very well be something that was upgraded with the facelift in 2016 and my older model info isn't useful.

If you figure it out, please post an update. Helps the board figure this stuff out, collectively.

Just went out to my 2016 LC to remember the process on the MFI.
- Use the L/R "arrow" keys on the right side of the steering wheel to move between "menus" on the MFI until you get to the one with a "gear" for its symbol.
- Use the up/down switch on the right side of the steering wheel to select the data you want to reset (Oil or Schedule Maintenance)
- Per the instructions you will see at the bottom of that menu, press and hold the "Enter" button (the same as the Up/Down button but pressed in) for a few seconds and you will get a message that the data is reset.
- You need to do Oil and Scheduled separately. They are right next to each other.

BTW, if you do make a significant change on your tire PSI (like from stock to 40-something if you put on KO2s or something) then you need to reset the TPMS. This is also in the manual. The hardest part is actually finding the button you need to press for some number of seconds until the TPMS warning light starts blinking. (The button isn't hard to find, its just that I do it so infrequently I never remember where it is and I have to look under the dash.)

It is in the gauge cluster between the tach and speedometer.

So it sounds like you are saying it is really just a generic reminder that can be cleared. Correct?

The next oil change should be coming up in the next 1-2k miles but again, the display is specific about an oil change correct?

I just followed your instructions above except I did not reset the scheduled maintenance. I don't want to clear something simply because I don't know what it is. Yet, at least.

Just to the left of the gear icon there is an orange triangle with an exclamation point in it. When I "arrow" over to it it didplayes the "Maintenence Required vidit your dealer" message.

If the message is just BS to get you to a dealer then I will clear it as you described above. I just want to make sure there is no significant maintenance that needs to be performed like a timing belt/chain replacement. Per the owners manual, I don't see that anything needs to be done at 67k miles.

Thanks all for the help, this is my first "nice" car.

I attached a couple of pictures.

You have done the right thing to check the Preventative Maintenance schedule first. But to be honest, most of those service milestones in the first 100K+ miles are pretty minor. Oil changes, tire rotations, filter changes, window wiper, etc. But some of those are really more up to you. I did a lot of freeway driving during the first 3 years of ownership so I logged a lot of miles that were pretty easy on the vehicle. There will be some fluid changes beyond the oil. And since I have done a bit of off-roading in dusty environments and a bit of trailer towing I always have those things done when recommended. (I like to err on the safe side). The only other work I have had done was the brakes and that requires some visual inspection which is a good reason for not going too long before taking it in or doing your own work. (The suspension stuff like shocks has a fair way to go for me as I upgraded to ARB OME Nitrocharger Sport shocks and stronger springs at about 25K or something like that. All of that is in good shape.)

But of course, more experience LC drivers may have a lot more advice.

Your car is not smart enough to know what maintenance is needed. That is a dummy notification that comes on every 5k miles, regardless of use/problems.

In my '17 Owners Manual the reset procedure noted by @Dan Higgins is on page 441. It's probably the same page or very close to that in your '16 manual. The list of specific maintenance needed at each service is in the Warranty and Maintenance Guide. Those for 65,000 or 70,000 are page 46. There is nothing special or major about either of those services, so the "visit your dealer" is effectively just an advertisement, so to speak. You can have the work done anywhere and there is nothing wrong with your truck. To reset the TPMS, see the location for the reset button and procedure on page 465 (or thereabouts) of the Owner's Manual.
