I’m looking for a little guidance on what PM stuff to do prior to leaving on a long 2500 mile RT over spring break (Portland, OR to Sedona, AZ. The front end and PHH were just done, I’m going to run some Redline “fuel magic cleaner” and then change the oil (M1 5-30 with 20004), have the rad flushed 18 month since. I’ll also rotate the tires, anything else I should think of? I was considering doing a tranny fluid replacement with M1 and the transfer and diffs seeing as it’s about time… oh yeah 96’ 118K It’s either drive the LC or the wifes Odyessy.

Thoughts, also anyone have insight on trails in the Sedona area for my stocker (locked).

Well.. I drove my LX from NYC to CA and thats 3000 miles...did the oil change, Balance, Alignment, tire pressure, replace drive belts, all new rubbers, new brake pads all fours, flush the coolant , reservoir, new tranny fluids, front & rear gear fluids, Slick 50 injector cleaner.
I made the trip in 3 days - $398.00 just the gas(one way)

take some spare coolant hoses too
check all fluids, lube shafts, check brake pads

check your bearings too

Wheel or muffler?

You do not say when your last tune up was. Nor when the fuel filter was replaced. Have you done the rear wheel bearing? Have you done a prior flush on the radiator or did you jsut buy the cruiser and do a flush(18 months ago)? I would also check the Fan clutch to see if it works right or Have you replace that recently. I do the Trans flush with or with out the syn if you have not done that as well.later robbie

Robbie,

plugs, cap and rotor with 8k on them, I bought the thing 35k (15 mths) ago. Fuel filter was done by PO (50kish ago).

Fan clutch how to test run to NOT and check resistance?

Rear wheel bearing had not thought of what must be done simple repack?

Ill agree with Robbie here..
just change out the fan clutch its cheap insurance. I drove from Salt Lake to Bellingham pulling a uhaul trailer about 2 years ago. I did a full coolant, tranny, diffs and transfer flush, changed out the breaks and had done the birfs and wheel bearing about 2 months earlier. when you change the fan clutch but on new oem belts and throw the old ones under the second row seats as spares.

I say load it up and go. It's an 80..., not an 80's Cutlass Oldsmobile.
