Has anyone installed this on their rig? Looking to get a little bit of rumble and lose the ugly resonator hanging under the bumper.

I don't want it loud (too old for that now), but I do want to hear it when I want to.

I was in the same boat as you and hated the look and location of the resonator. I saved a lot of money (over half the price) by just replacing the stock muffler with a magnaflow and then cut the resonator off and added a small tail pipe directing the exhaust out the side behind the tire.

I have one installed. You can definitely hear it in 1-4 gear, it quiets way down in 5 and especially 6th. I had hoped it would be a tad quieter in 4th or so but I guess it's not magic. I like it but I have to admit the wife and kids have mentioned it's loud to them but, they only know what stock exhausts sound like.

Hi Gents - digging up an old thread...

Does anyone have any recent or long-term experience with the Magnaflow Overland exhaust? Drone, city driving noise. integrity, etc...

My stock exhaust is shot. I got a quote from a local exhaust shop ($675) and they do not use SS, just crap metal. I don't want to have to worry about the exhaust again for the rest of the trucks life. OEM seems cost prohibitive.

Additionally, has anyone replaced the donut gasket or bolts at the connection of the stock to the Magnaflow?

Thanks

Based on my exhaust experience - I think it is highly likely that system will drone and be annoying if you are drone-sensitive. It does not have any type of resonator and the GX and UZ V8 can drone badly at both the 115 Hz and 130 Hz frequencies without a large-case muffler and without some kind of a resonator between the muffler and tailpipe. I know as I probably have 3 or 4 iterations of my exhaust (which started as a Borla exhaust for a 5th gen 4Runner) before I finally got rid of the drone.

The best - but $$$$ - low-drone option is a Dirty Deeds exhaust. But, it's just the midpipe and does not include the tailpipe, so you'd need to source it from somewhere else (assuming yours is rusted out).

Or, get the MF and roll the dice on the drone. If it does drone like crazy, you'd need to look at adding resonators to it. Most muffler shops don't do SS welding so that part can be problematic. You'd also need to find one willing to learn how to size and build a quarter-wave or a helmholtz resonator. That's how I ended up learning how to weld SS myself and ended up with my current exhaust. I should have just got the Dirty Deeds to start with.

I got this on my 460. Very happy with it. Just loud enough to hear the V8 as it should. Doesn’t drone. Good clearance. It’s $$$ but you won’t regret it and it’ll stay on the rig for a long time.

Thanks for the insight fellas. The issue I have is that the rear of the exhaust pipe rusted off the back of the muffler. I had it welded back on and I suppose it wasn't aligned properly, now it makes contact with the frame/body and rattles horribly while in gear at idle. It is driving me crazy. When I took it back to get "fixed" the shop told me by exhaust it shot and needs to be replaced. When I examined the exhaust it look like its in great shape.

I was/am considering the Magnaflow Overland, but the cost IMO is nuts - especially just for a rattle that I would think could be corrected.

Maybe I should just cut off the exhaust where it was broken and have it re-welded on correctly....

An easy solution would to be find a different shop and have a new muffler welded in. If you want some extra sound, you could go with the "big" Magnaflow (22" case), put in the same location as the OEM muffler, and retain the factory resonator. This should be just a few hundred dollars and would avoid most of the drone concerns (large case muffler, OEM resonator retained).

However, the exhaust shop will likely use basic carbon steel and welding wire, so the welded-in segments may rust out within a few years.

Mufflers fine as is. It really just needs to be separated from the pipe again, aligned and re-welded. However it was welded has resulted in the exhaust pipe from the muffler back to now rub on something.

I had the same issue with my exhaust. Magnaflow was $$$ and I have zero interest in making any vehicle louder so I wound up getting some inexpensive parts from rock auto, brand was Walker. Had no issues, it works fine. Not fancy, doesn’t look great after a few winters but no complaints.
If I had to do again I think I’d opt for a used kit from marketplace, I’ve seen quite a few 4Runner takeoffs for cheap.

Agreed. I also have zero interest in a loud or droning exhaust.
I suppose I just need to find another exhaust shop that can correct the angle.
