MAF on a 1991?

I just got done cleaning out the throttle body on my friend's 1991 FJ80 and it was FULL of slop. This makes me think that the MAF sensor (if these trucks have one) must be covered with mud as well, so it would be giving all sorts of bad readings. If there is an MAF on the six-cylinder engine, where is it located? and how hard is it to remove?

Thanks,
Eric

My TB had a ton of crud on the BACK SIDE OF IT but my MAF (240,000 miles) was as clean as could be. I assume yours is too, hint, hint, wink, wink. ;p

BTW the MAF is the silver thingy between the air cleaner and the TB, but don't remove the two black screws holding the black connector to the MAF. If you look carefully you'll see a wire curclip (SP) that holds the cable to the TB.

DO TOUCH THE BLACK SCREWS!

my 91 tb was filthy on the engine side of the butterfly and there was oil gunk residue in the bottom of the bellows but the MAF was clean.

just curious why you must undo the two screws. Doesn't that activate the 3FE self-destruct button?

The screws hold in the meter-side connector. It is soldered in with a ton of teensy wires.

Fellow removes screws (thinking this is how to un-do the plug), tugs on said plug and ruins the airflow meter 'cuz he just ripped the connector off of the circuit board

Dan is right other than the pins in the connector to the motherboard aren't tiny wires, they're foil.

And you stated "just curious why you must undo the two screws" that would be DO NOT REMOVE THE TWO SCREWS" like my PO did.

What happen in my case is the foil will touch intermittently; I chased that one down after replacing my Air cleaner.

I'll say it as well DON"T remove the screws, it will brake the solder conection on the sensor and you will need a new/used one.

not that I have presonal experence ;)

I soldered my foil wires back on the adjacent PCB etching, but of course this would be on a 1 on 1 basis.

AKA lucky SOB.
