m416 Hub conversion

I am just starting my m416 project and would like to run toyota 6 lug wheels on it so the trailer wheels are interchangeable with the FJ and match visually also.

How do i convert it?

That's what I've been told as well. Upgrade in axle capacity and just as expensive as finding new hubs, or having new hubs made.

they didnt seem to have what i needed.

southwest trailer said they need the hub face to hub face measurement, but to be honest the guy i spoke to didn't sound very confident about having what i needed.

dont suppose there is a part number or other such method of making this "easy"?

I'm just starting mine as well. From what I've learned, you do need that measurement in order to order the axle you want. Both ABC and Southern have hubs that are compatible with Toyota hubs (6 on 5.5).

What I'm doing is coming as close as I can to matching the track width of my tow rig as well as being able to put the same wheels on both hubs. Scroll through the linked page below and you will see a number of axle options from ABC and down the page, hub choices with the various number of studs on "X" inches apart.

Pick the axle with the options you want and you should be good to go...

There was a post once that had just replacement hubs for like $38 each that would goon the stock axle. If i can find that post i will probably go that route.

I haven't been able to find that post, but if you can that would be pretty awesome.

The axle width problem could be fixed with wider wheels and the correct backspacing.

Not really a problem, but some like to get another trailer axle that has the same width as the rear axle. I don't mind mine at all.

Those hubs are for the Canadian M101 trailer. If the M416 you own uses the same size bearings for the inner and outer bearings. Then there are no replacement hubs for that axle with the Toyota lug pattern. Some of the last M416s were built with the 3500# style axles (larger inner bearing and smaller outer bearing) and you can get the same hubs that are used to convert the Canadian M101 over to the Toyota pattern to convert that type of axle.

interesting. got a link for these 6 bolt hubs? and do they still allow the use of the hand brake? if the hubs can be swapped out while retaining the brake, id rather go that route. id imagine the stock axles are pretty strong on the m101. i dont think id ever load it down to anywhere near 3500#...

All they need to know is the hub face to hub face measurement (A) and spring center measurement (B) to build you a new axle,

From the ABC website:
"Axle sold with five or six lug hubs with bearings, grease caps, seals, lug nuts and u-bolt kit cost $106.99. Special sizes can be built at no extra charge."

ABC is a good way to go. I payed around $160 total for mine.

I believe that this is what you need for converting the Canadian M101 to the Toyota lug pattern and yes, it will retain the original parking brake.

Those are the ones i was talking about. I have not pulled my axle apart yet to see if i can do the swap or need a new axle. What length axles are you using for a replacement on the 416? Also anyone order one with electric brakes? If so do you think it was worth it?

$80 for a rebuilt low capacity axle or $125 for a new 3500# axle that can be made to any custom dimensions? I'd still take the new axle, but that's just me.

I'm not sure if those would work with the 416, but I can probably look up the bearing numbers when I get home.
