Anyone in the area got one I can borrow? Need to chase the head bolt threads in the block - odd size not carried by local retailers.

I think fastenall would have one the store down here had a wide variety of taps and if they didn't have one in stock I imagine they could easily order one.

Checked Fastenal - no dice, but thanks for the suggestion. I've tried Ace, McMaster, MSC, and Fastenal....

Grrrrrr

Hopefully the machine shop that's doing the head work will be able to help me worst case.

I've actually been there before Marshall. Their online catalog does not show any m13 taps - did you buy one there locally?

They can make it. I requested a quote for one. Should know tomorrow. Would think a machine shop would have one though. Certainly would be a good tool for a club to have.

Another option is to just cut slits in a headbolt and use it as a chase. Has worked for me in the past.

Wholesale tool NO

Thanks! I tried their search function and didn't find it. Too bad you don't live in Wake County. This is definitely have one of these amongst us around here with all the head work we've been doing lately.

Cheers,
Ramon

Funny, just did a google search for m13 x 1.75. You know what was first on the list?

This thread. :)

Might be worth checking with Wilder's in Raleigh also...

No sorry, wasn't clear in my reply. I saw it from your link, I meant I used their search function on the website prior to that and couldn't find it. I also just found they are selling at the same price on Amazon. Funny.

tap and dye set

Where is a good place that I can get a good set? I'm still learning all the names and terms for some of these tools. What sizes would I need? Thanks in advance :steer:

Hey Adam, you'll want to buy a quality metric set for the Cruiser. I have a Craftsman set I have been very happy with, but some of the larger/odd size bolts on the 40 you'll have to chase down because they don't come in most sets. Here's a link to a set like I bought years ago: Sears: Online department store featuring appliances, tools, fitness equipment and more

If you aren't in a hurry, you can usually catch a good sale. It's one of those tools you want good quality if you are ever going to do any fabrication work. Just chasing old nasty threads, you can get away with a cheaper HF or other set.

I now have the M13 1.25 tap should anyone ever need to borrow it for chasing the head bolt threads in the block.
