Looking at a couple of trailers for pulling behind the 62 this next friday.

One is original and has extra axle so I can swap to match my hubs. He is ASKING $1500 or OBO. He says rust only superficial but I'm gonna give it a good look. Whats a fair price for one of these?

The other is same trailer but has few mods which includes lid however it won't support the RTT we are planning on the way it was build. He is asking $2290. It has been repainted and has some little perks like the axle has been serviced and the brake is working well.

I'm considering the original so I can get it to the bare essentials and drag our gear covered with tarp until after this summer when I can have it modified to work for the family.

I know pics would help but I got none to offer at this point.

Thanks

Both are M101 CDN? The prices are on the high side, but people do pay $1500 for clean 1/4 ton trailer sometimes. They are hard to find and in generally good condition compared to US surplus 1/4 ton trailers.

If you can agree on a price, I'd go for the one without the mods, better to start with a clean sheet of paper, especially if you're not impressed by the lid. The brake should free up when doused in penetrating lube.

Unless there's a reason to change the axle, if there's an extra axle with the correct hubs supplied as part of the deal, then just pull the hubs on it and R&R the hubs onto the axle on the trailer when you PM the axle. I wouldn't put a lot of value in the extra axle if just for the hubs. A pair of new ones are around $60?

I bought an M101A2 for $1000. All original, 1989 production, no rust, new tires, Mahogany sides and bows, cover in very good shape, functioning hydraulic surge brakes. The PO has 5 more of them-similar condition. Located in Alva, Fl.

I wish you were closer! Still trying to find someone who can inspect these.

I just picked one up with no rust working park brake new tires on extra rims and the original lights for $1000. I think I got a good deal though. I was willing to pay $1200-$1500 for worse but I really wanted one of these. mine is 1992 so I don't think it saw service. they are kind I like any collectible. it's worth what you are willing to pay. you can watch and watch and get a "story worthy" deal or just pick one up and get using it. you know what I mean?

sggoat,
You're talking about an entirely different trailer, a big ol' American one, at least 3/4 ton.

The M101 CDN is a petite 1/4 ton trailer, made for Canadian Forces to tow behind the Iltis, smallish VW-built 4x4.

This is what mine looked like when picked up, before the mods began.
