The plastic roof is easy to work with, but it has some flaws. One suck flaw is that it is not as rigid as aluminum or steel.

What I did to stiffen it up on the 3 non-supported sides was to sandwich the plastic between some 1X1 angle iron on the bottom and 1" strap on the top. This really was nice and it was much easier than welding a metal frame together.

if you could use weather strip ( rubber) about 3/8" in between the lid you would have the cushion to make the latch work right ;)

I have plenty of room for weather stripping and plan on using it for sure.

I will remount the slam latch when I do that and see if it works better.

I wish I had done the 300# shocks like you recommended. If I put my tent up there I believe these will hold it up, but they won't lift it like yours does.

I may just switch to them anyway, they are not very expensive.

I really like the plastic lid. It is cool to see other ideas that don't include welding for those of us that haven't learned yet. Do you have any concern of warpage since the plastic is black? I have a m101 vinyl tarp on mine that is dark colors and it gets really hot and heats up the inside also.

I got the link to the clamps here on Mud.....Let me know how many you need, I bought WAY too many and would love to get rid of a few pair.

As for warpage, the angle iron should keep that from happening. If not, I will just need to add another row of angle lenghtwise between the shock mounts.

Small tip: the angle of the gas shock install can make a real difference in the lifting

Sure, every degree off vertical and they are less effective, just like a shock on a car.

That said if I can just get the shocks I have to hold up the load when it is open and help me with picking up the top with the tent on it, that will be fine.

I like the way the shocks are out of the way on mine, that is why I put them there.

I may have to move them.

Those clamps look like quik fists, and can be found at many fire and saftey shops

I got the tent installed.

I used Yakima Topload brackets to mount the rack and then centered the tent on the trailer.

I am amazed at how sturdy this setup is sitting on the trailer stand. I had my whole family romping around in it and it was rock solid.

Looking good! I think you will have great luck moving those shocks about 6" from the outside of the tub. drilling a hole through the tub to mount the ball. 2X100lbs is quite a bit of lift

Looks GREAT Nolen.

Very well thought out and executed!

Are you saying instead of being up on the lip, move the bottoms in 6" from the hinge side into the tub and mount? If so, that is what I have in mind....

Yes - exactly

Also IIRC I was down from the top lip of the tub 3" or so. It took me a few tries before i got it right... hey what's a few extra holes right :)

I finally got the shocks mounted right so they will lift the top and hold it up. Sadly it took 5 tries :( Luckily I was only testing the stroke on one side. I only had to drill one hole in the rear once I figured out the right placement.

I have the tent and the lid with some other items up there and the tow 150# shocks do great in lifting and holding the top up.

FYI, I took the 5 on 120 to 5 on 150 adapter spacers off my trailer today and went back to the stock rims.

I am going to be selling my 100 series due to a job change (lost company car) and I did not want to tie up the 18" 100 series wheels with the trailer.

Anyway, I have $300 in the adapters and the 100 series lug nuts if anyone wants them for $200, they are theirs.

I ended up using a set of 265/16's that I used to run on my Duramax in the winter. Buckshot Maxxis Mudders. I only used 2 (obviously) so I still have 2 left if anyone wants them for their own 101 trailer. They have 75% tread. You can have them for $100 plus shipping.

I will snap some pics of the completed trailer tomorrow.

Ax and shovel brackets

Can I get the link for the brackets please,. Your trailer looks real good, great show platform. Thanks

What brand is the tent? Where did you get it?

A huge ditto on that, your tent looks real nice, what brand is it?

Cheers!
