Yes I'm in Moab :D. But I brought a 05 Mustang which I'm pretty sure might take some body damage on the trails... so a question... If I rent a Jeep what's a good 3-ish trail to go play on with my Mom and Lisa?

Arrived here tonight. Haven't actually "seen" Moab yet... :D

Fins and Things

Have fun!

Make sure you dine at the Moab Brewery. There is also a little fun park next door, take them over for a go cart race:D

Fins is great fun - lots ups and downs. Procupine Rim was probably falls in that range too, with great views at the top.

s***... if you rent a Jeep you might just stay in the Motel parking lot. Probably the safest bet.

Go to the visitor center, loads of maps and trail info. For relatively easy and way scenic trails, Onion Creek (dirt road, way scenic), Top of the world (easy wheeling, way scenic, it’s the next exit from Onion creek), Seven Mile rim (easy wheeling, gets on top of one of the big rims, great views looking down on Arches, go to the big buttes and turn around much after that you would want another truck with you). The highway drive (128) back to Onion Creek & Top of the world is a great drive.

Eat at Zak’s, right down town, all you can eat pizza, soup and salad for ~$10, good stuff!

If your going to Sand Flats, run Hells! Way more fun than Fins, better wheeling, better views, signature Moab run. If you just run the loop, bypassing the optional obstacles, the gate, tubs, tip over, etc you will do great alone, have seen many rent-a-heeps back there running alone. Also remember that they overrate the trails compared to what we are used to, if they are rating it 4+, it’s more like 3.5 for us.

God is that true. Golden Spike was a 4.5 and it was one of the easiest I've done in the 100. HAVE FUN!

I agree that basic Spike isn’t a 4.5, but I have done much easier trails, maybe I need a 100? Like most trails it’s the optional obstacles that get you, the vertical wedgie, running the left side of golden stairs, Double Whammy, etc. The basic trail is probably a strong 3.5, I would up it to 4.0 for length and remoteness, recovering broken rigs from there is a bitch. Taking the most aggressive lines can easily up it to a 4.5.

It’s my favorite Moab trail, not because it’s “hard”, it’s the varied obstacles combined with the fantastic scenery that does it for me. There is little dirt road screwing around, the obstacles start early and keep coming, steps, wedgies, crack, big ups and downs, off camber, red rock, slick rock, a little of everything, with little time to be bored.

Sorry but IMHO, SPIKE FRICKEN ROCKS!:D:D:D

I agree. Spike was killer! FUN!

Mark,

Hell's should be fine in a rental jeep, Sevenmile Rim, too (pucker factor included ;p), Top of the World has great views, Gold Bar Rim sure is doable, and so should be Metal Masher......

You have got to be sh!tting me... you guys were here, TODAY???

Dammit. Anyway we rented a 07 Rubicoin :D from Farabee (2.5" lift and 35s plus body armor BECAUSE I CAN!) and did Fins, did Fins again (southern loop) because Lisa wanted to drive... and she did a fine job. Of course her spotter did himself well, too.

Then we went to Arches National Park and wheeled over to Tower Arch, fun trail, did some hiking, had a fine time.

Damn this place is great. I thought having wheeled some slickrock in Sedona I knew what to expect... nope. Freaking awesome!! Can't wait for Cruise Moab...

Leaving for PHX tomorrow morning... :crybaby:

Stop at Burro Creek on the way back down, walk to see the ruins. and if you haven't already, drive down the Moki dugway.. Ooh, don't forget to see Mexican Hat (drive back around to the river for lunch), or cruise out to snap some pics of the Goosenecks. Soo much to do out there..
