I just got off the phone with Future Logistics. There are no significant number of trailers currently available in Western Canada. He is awaiting word from the military on another batch but is not expecting to know anything for a few more weeks.

He told me ballpark of $800 each... including shipping.... when he does get them in.

It appears the guys in the other group buy are having to wait as well. We should try to piggy back on their transaction.

Lars-- where did you hear that?-- I have not heard from the guy in a while.

When I talked to Future Logistics I asked them about another group buy in progress. He said "the guys in California?" I said yes as I assumed they were one in the same.

I think we are still moving along. The group buy guy (steve) is going to give me a call today and we are going to try and figure out some things.

Questions for you guys -- assuming a final delivered price of between 750-850 dollars, and delivery in Las Vegas-- how many of you guys are still in -- solid and serious--for a canadian trailer?

How many more would join up if we could get delivery moved to the Valley? This might be a possibilty if we have a majority of the purchasers here--- plus a place to store the trailers for a while (BMAN?)

I bet I could get 10-12 guys not associated with this website if there was a seperate drop-off in the Valley.

I would also travel to Vegas for a trailer.

For me, the price range of $750 to $850 (for a final delivered price) is reasonable -- obviously, the lower the better as far as price goes. And since I'm in Northern CA, picking up in Vegas actually works better for me.

I'm still in (unless this thing drags out for months...)

Ok, here is the deal. I just spoke with the Steve, the guy that was the instigator of this whole thing.

He has got buyers for 4-6 of these trailers. His buyers are all in So Cal. Phoenix works as a drop off location for him and his buyers. He is going to get firm commitments.

The only issue is can we get 12-14 buyers of trailers here is arizona-- or willing to come to arizona to get their trailers? Future Logistics has some additional buyers lined up, but many of them are in No Cal, and Phoenix may not work for them. I would prefer to fill up the list with our guys first. Some of these other guys may not want to come to Arizona.

The preliminary plan is to require each purchaser to send a 150 deposit-- probably to future logistics directly. If we end up short on buyers, of there is some problem on their end, you would get your money back.

BUT if you just change your mind, the 150 bucks is forfeit and used to pay for the shipping of the remaining trailers. That means that we can still deliver the remaining trailers at the agreed cost-- delivering a semi with 17 trailers costs the same as delivering one with 18 trailers. Make sense?

The balance would then be due in a couple of weeks. Again, payment directly to future logistics.

The other issue is that we need to find a receiving yard-- someplace that can receive the shipment and dole out the trailers. I mentioned BMANs suggestion, and Steve said that he would prefer having the trailers delivered to an established shipping yard-- some place with insurance. Some place that could receive the trailers, store them as needed, and dole them out to the buyers. Do you guys know of any place that could do this for us? I assume that they would charge a fee for this service, but hopefully it can be done reasonably. If not, we might have to go back to BMAN. Does anyone have any ideas on this?

The target price is still the same. We are hoping that we can do the whole thing for 750 a trailer, but we should probably say 750-850 just to be safe.

So, based on this conditions how many of you are in-- firmly in--???

I will start a list

1. Jared Pitts
2. Sterling Pitts
3. Sean Pitts

Vegas or Phoenix works for me ( Phoenix somewhat better) I would like to at least see what we are buying. Is that at all possible? are they still unused if it is through future logic? I am in for 4-5 trailers depending on the final price per unit.

list update

1. Jared Pitts -1 trailer
2. Sterling Pitts -1 trailer
3. Sean Pitts -1 trailer
4. Pasquale - 4-5 trailers

Yes it is through future logistics. Did you see the future logistics website? It shows pictures of the canadian trailers, and give some specifications. Is that what you are looking for? These trailers are "new" but they have been siting around since 1992. Again, see the website.

Although I should say that I don't think those pictures are necessarily the exact trailers we would be getting. It would be nice to get those pictures, but I am not sure if we can. I will ask.

Jared

yes I have looked at the site, and yes I read the story... Like I said buying site unseen is a risky business. I don't think it is out of line to get a photo of just what we are buying. If they are exactly like those great! I hope you are able to request an updated photo :)

I also want to send thanks! in a big way all of you who are putting in this extra energy to make this deal go down

So are you saying there is trailers available right now? FutureLog. told me they had none.

I'm in by the way. And if we need more Arizona buyers just give me the word and I will post a msg to a local club I belong to which should put us at whatever number is needed.

List Update:

1. Jared Pitts -1 trailer
2. Sterling Pitts -1 trailer
3. Sean Pitts -1 trailer
4. Pasquale - 4-5 trailers
5. Larry - 1 trailer

i have been reading this post since it started and i cant help wonder, what happened to making them locally??

i dont know how many of you are just wanting a 416 clone or what,, but if a guy could make a basic box trailer, customizable somewhat in box size, tongue length, SOA/SUA and hitch style for about $800 ea. ,, would that be feasable??

Don't go starting that again.

I still think building the trailers would be a good, if not better idea. But I have not found a complete set of plans that I could take somewhere and get a quote on, and I don't know how to design one myself.

But in the end, I think that these trailers are a real good deal.

For the price, if you don't like you trailer you shouldn't have too big of a problem selling it.

Jared

I have some buddies who bought these unused trailers and they are everything they seem to be. Not all of them have tailights, in fact the military tend to remove them before sale.

I haven't seen any unused ones for sale in about a year and a half though I recently bought ten that had been in service. You don't get much of a discount for buying the used ones but then again they are still in really good condition. They sell quick.

I also have a minty M100 that I can compare and with the exception of the suspensions, the newer unit is better in every respect.

Just wanted to give a independant opinion.

Cheers

Thanks for the feedback.

When I talked to Future Logistics he mentioned it would be very difficult to get any unused trailers ever again. He said most liekly they would be lightly used by what would be the equivelant to our national guard.

Alright guys! I'll jump in with Rhino on this one simply because I just had something come up and probably won't be able to get in on this group buy. I can draw and supply a set of plans for a 416 style trailer. As a matter of fact I have already done this and can bring drawings for review and comment to the Aug 20 Cruiser Cruise at the Tempe Sonic. I can then go back to work on the drawings with any neccessary changes and get a finalized set together w/in a week. I will provide drawings to whomever we decide should get our pricing for us (Jared or Rhino if one of them is willing to do the leg work). I can also provide drawings to our chosen fabricator in numerous formats. .DWG, .DGN, .DXF, .PDF ...
I said before that I was willing to do this and didn't get much of a response. Let me know if you are interested in this method.
