I'm aware of the metal tech tube fenders,

but when I was clearancing the first 40 I built, before I knew much about them, I was envisioning a way to raise the stock fender top by cutting into the apron just to keep the stock look and have more vertical the way that kit does.
I thought it was cool that this kid exists now although it is pricey.

I have wondered a bout this myself.

I trimmed the fenders and started laying out the 1/4" rod. I think it is going to work out ok.

Looks great man.

One word of advice. I used 1/4" round bar to line the front fenders of moonshine in the last round of body work, about 5 years ago. They've been great and rigid, but there is rust forming between the 1/4" round bar and the fender. Meaning, moisture is getting inbetween and sitting there, rotting the sheet metal in one or two spots. Not a huge deal, but annoying.

I'd recommend doing what you're doing, but after the welding is done, treat all the bare steel with ospho, epoxy prime, seam seal, then top coat with something impermeable. Best chance of preventing rust. I only seam sealed that area, then top coated, it wasn't enough.

More effort, but saves time later.

I like body lifts.

The Eastwood looks similar to mine. I think I have a few more dies. Mine is a S.U.R.R kit. I have had it for over 12 years and it does a great job everytime. One of my techs has a hand held like the one you posted that does a good job when working on the car if you need to splice a line together using a union. Most of my stuff at home, I just make a whole new line.
Found some time to set up the new flare tool. Worked like a charm, first time. Thanks for the info, glad I followed your lead.

Happy to give any tech I can.

I got the fenders welded out. I started to flap sand a little. Still a lot to go and I need to patch the pass fender. I do not like to weld sheet metal!

I leave for SAS9 on the 1st of August. Might still have wet paint!😁

Hoping for a big push this weekend. Front springs and shocks all around.

Are you a maxxis dealer or just really like their tires?

We are a dealer and they have a really great product. I have not ran the trailer tires yet, the rep was pushing them a while back.
I am an authorized dealer for them. I really like them. We sell a lot of the HP M3's, the 770's, 771's and now the new AT 811.s as well as the MT 772. I like the Bias Treps, but they dig and throw stuff. Takes some HP to get them turning over. Work great on the race car. I wish they made the 811 in a 315-75-16 for my GMC and 80, and a 33 10.50 15 would be great for a lot of 40's/60's.

Their trailer tires are top notch! I have been running the M8008 trailer tires for a long time, over 15 years, never had an issue. plus they come in 10 ply. This is my first set of the new tires, but I will tell you, they are heavy. Very similar to the Goodyear G614 in weight, at least 15-20lbs heavier than the same 10 ply standard tire. I am about to put over 4000 miles on them in a few weeks.

I did not know you were a maxxis dealer. Next time the motel needs tires I'll hit you up.

New front springs and shocks all the way around. Spent the morning welding up a labs bumper for a 40 for a buddy of mine going to SAS. Did not get any of bumper.

Gained about 3/8" from springs but am sure they will setltle some.

Spent a little time with a flap sander and also got the pass fender patched. A light skim coat and some sanding and they should be ready for paint
