2015 with 87k...it is newer to me, the trans was checked and serviced in one of the carfax records around 55k...nothing past that. checked and then checked out, so to speak. thoughts?

It can be somewhat normal to a degree. The 2-1 downshift in the AB60F is a complex compound transition between clutches. It can also jolt on a one way clutch if the torque applied and hydraulic modulation and timing isn't exactly right with a low speed dynamic transition. Combine that with high ratio multiplication in low gears, and the thump can be amplified.

It can be the transmission fluid is cold, dirty, or even low so might be worth checking the fluid level or do a fluid service which requires re-setting the level. Perhaps reset the T-ECU so it can re-learn after service.

Other things might be drivetrain lash, engine mounts, but 87k miles is pretty new. Might want to lube the driveshafts if they haven't been done.

Perfect, thank you for the suggestions. I appreciate it. Anything else I should have the dealership do? The car is new to me, so I would like to get it in near-perfect condition. I appreciate your time.

1-2 has been clunky on Toyota truck transmission for as far back as I can remember. In traffic, the 1-2 shift feels like it lurches into gear.

Hey all, thanks for your thoughts here, as a followup I had to drop a news trans in it. That sucked. But the car is buttery silk now. Thanks for helping me out.

strange for that low of mileage. What was the issue that killed the trans?

this is the post which mentions the clunk be gone with driveshaft retorque-
+1 for driveshaft, id also suggest greasing zyrks
