14 LX470 w/ 160K.
Transmission service regularly done at the dealership according to the record.
The truck is in outstanding shape and the transmission shifts smooth EXCEPT from 1st to 2nd.
No matter how easy on the gas pedal, I get this "shift shock" or harsh shifting that only occurs on 1st to 2nd gear.
During my research, I saw 16 model year w/ 8 speed has some sort of TCM calibration or software update to correct the issue but haven't seen anything on 14 model year.

Does anyone know or have similar issue with their transmission?
Any possible cause or solution?
The truck is totally stock.

Yes. With the 6 speed I think this is common. There are a few threads on here and also some folks that threatened to sell their trucks over it because it bothered them so bad.

There are a lot of hypothesis about it, and a lot of variation in when it manifests, but it is not uncommon.

Thanks for your reply.
I thought it only happened on 8 speed but I guess I was wrong.
I thought my solenoid or clutch is going bad…

I’d recommend a full exchange, flush, filter, gasket and fill.
It will likely be much improved post service. Made a big difference on mine (though my 1 to 2 was ok) all shifts improved and tranny much much quieter.
If you diy, make sure to soak the top and bottom of the four corner bolts that are exposed in removal lubricant, they are alarmingly easy to twist off.
Thread running now on the fluid options.
Several threads and a video on the exchange procedure.

A little discussion here:

And a whole thread here:

I think that if your tranny has been serviced regularly and you are experiencing no other issues, this is probably best categorized as a platform idiosyncrasy.

I have had my transmission checked out by a couple of different places and nothing has been found. I have it regularly serviced, I beat the living s**t out of it on a regular basis, I drive around with > 8k lbs, etc. It is smooth as butter in all situations except some occasions going from 1-2.

C'est la vie.

Yeah, some people have reported improvement on moving to a different brand of fluid. It didn't make a difference for me, but YMMV.

Of course it was around 225k miles too.

Hi there, can you describe what you are calling shock? I ask because mine has an intermittent issue from 1st to 2nd as well. I would describe it as a shudder / studder when applying lighter acceleration. I also seem to find it occurs more often after things are nice and warm and when ambient temp is warmer too. Not sure what it is, but I actually just got it back from dealer today and of course got the “we can’t duplicate” response. Lastly, if I put it “2nd” Start mode it doesn’t seem to have the issue.

2014 LC, 110k miles; transmission fluid changed (by dealer) at 90k. Overall car very well serviced and great. Had trans fluid change verified by an Indy as well.

I see... the record indicated that the transmission was serviced about 500miles ago.
I might have to let my local Indy shop perform all above recommendation procedures and see what happens... thanks!

Yes, more like light shudder or jolt... felt like some random grandma is rear ending me every time I take off :(
If I flooring the accelerator, then I don't feel that 1st to 2nd shift jolt... only under light or normal driving.
The temperature doesn't really play a roll in my case...

Even the 8 speed acts weird , my 2018 LC 200 was fine , the 2019 had a weird Lurch when you went to put it into park and that one also had the 1 to 2nd and some times down shifting lower gears felt like if it was a manual trans and you were lugging the the trans down , had that same feeling .
Deal checked it out a could not explaining the lurching thing said it was normal .
My 2020 does that every once in the while .

Ok that actually sounds more like your drive shafts need to be greased than a transmission issue.

Try that first.

Thanks! I told the shop to do that a few days ago but will try to grease again and see.
Thanks for your suggestion!

I checked all grease fitting area and they're pretty much full... looks like my shop actually top them off.
I drove again just now and it's definitely coming from the transmission area.

Someone recently posted about removing one of the drive shafts and re-torquing a bolt or nut inside the transfer case. This seemed to solve his problem.

This is noticeable when is cold.
One way of getting past this is to use "start in 2nd" option. (I wish there is a techstream to set it as default when engine start)

As someone noted, doing a full transmission fluid drain (12 quarts) and filling it helped me.
Also do a battery disconnect and let the ECU clear up old shift points.
Doing all the above made noticeable difference. (Although not completely eliminate)

I am suspecting that these rigs are also meant to tow, so the 1st gear is configured for that high torque and the shift between 1 to 2 is more noticable?
I wish I can see a low miles LX or LC with 6 speed to compare how it shifts between 1 to 2 to determine if its out of factory or a change of transmission due to age.

I have searched far and wide for this mentioned post and am coming up without a hit. Would you mind to assist? TIA

Do you mean the bolt holding the flange to the transfer case? Just curious.
