2018 lx570. just finished a road trip, and was surprised to see very high oil consumption at highway speeds. I was burning something like 1 qt per 1200 miles.
There is NO blue smoke as i accelerated up a hill, so its not the rings.
And in the 10K miles i had driven it before the road trip, i did not notice any unusual oil consumption.

the oil was changed about 6000 miles ago, and it is alread pretty dirty looking.

Is this normal for an LX570? Seems very high.
What should i be looking for? PCV valve bad? Anything else?

How many miles on it? 2018 is pretty new..

PCV valve is cheap and easy, and has fixed oil consumption for others. Part number 12204-38010

You can't really judge anything by the visual appearance of oil.. unless it is milky colored. It is inevitable that oil gets dirty inside an engine, especially 60% through it's expected use interval. It has to suspend soot and other byproducts of combustion, deal with dilution from fuel and water vapor, etc. I'd be dirty too..

Many of us change oil at 5k which is probably overkill, going to 10 is in the book and many rigs do this without issue. Personally I found that if I went past 7500 my oil consumption increased.. but nowhere near as much as you are dealing with.

Edit: extra question.. were you towing on the trip? Do you tow heavy frequently?

Def start with the PCV valve. Likely as simple as that.

PCV swap for me made a noticeable difference…. Mine did not rattle at all when shook the old one, totally gummed up and seized…. Very cheap and easy fix.

Who changed the oil the last time? Are you sure they really changed it? I'm not saying you are this guy so don't be offended, advice for the masses. People that never open the hood of there car really should after an oil change just to make sure it was actually done.

around 66K miles. No towing on the trip. Mostly just flat highway driving at 65 or 70

it just had the 60K dealer service...so i am pretty sure they changed it!

I would pull an oil analysis through Blackstone just to make sure nothing serious is going on. I have never seen a Toyota V8 burn oil either. I’m sure it happens but I’ve had the 1uz, 2uz, 3uz with a total of close to a million miles and never once added oil.

+10 to PCV valve. when I did my valley plate leak, noticed oil on the intake. I was at 4000 miles after oil change at that time and lost more than 1 quart of oil for 4000 miles.
After PCV valve change and top off oil and 2000 mile run, no oil lost at all and oil looks close to new (golden yellow). Like someone said, oil color should be less of indicator.

You may have an oil pan leak or something to loose so much oil.

I have a 2018 LX with 66K on it and it has used some oil since 20K.
changed oil every 7K on average, doing 5K now.
have you seen any improvement in your usage.

My longest interval has been 6k, never seen a drop of consumption. 2017 on 5W-30 since 50k.

Get this thing checked under warranty, a cruiser is meant to not have these kinds of headaches.

Many Cruisers consume oil after 6-8k OCIs with 0W20. Mine did and I switched to 5W30. Consumption gone.

Same. Significant uptick after 7500 for me using 0w-20. I haven't gone that far on the current 5w-30 to tell whether it would be any better.

i am still on 0-20w full synthetic oil.
after a couple oil changes, whatever was going on (probably a stuck ring) unstuck itself and my consumption is more like 1 quart in 10K miles.

I am trying to keep to a 5K mile oil change schedule, since it seems prone to screwing up now. i lucked out

i should add, i did a couple long road trips at high speed, that extra pressure seems to have helped clean out whatever crud was in there.

i never did replace the PCV valve, but probably should, as the oil does get dirty brown around 6K miles
