Picked up a 1999 LX470 before Christmas and I am madly in love with it. The car is pretty clean but there are a few issues I am trying to fix. One of them is the steering wheel adjustment.

The steering wheel doesn't move when getting in/out of the vehicle, and cannot be adjusted via the joystick on the side of the column (I hear no noise when activating it).

I've done some search on here and found out that the auto telescoping feature can be disabled by the dealer but I am not sure if this would also disable the joystick.

If have any ideas where I should start looking please let me know.

From my experience, the wheel will tilt and telescope when you put the key in the ignition. I had the dealership disable this function, but the joystick still works for adjusting both tilt and telescope.

I also had to replace the telescoping motor, I think they are prone to failure over time. There is a great thread in the FAQ about replacing the motor: DIY: Telescoping Column Motor Removal/Repair

Good luck!

Hello, I have the same problem as the original poster. It does not look like this thread provided an answer. SDLX470 did you find a fix? Just bought a 2003 LX470 and the steering is stock all the way in and up and will not move automatically or with the little switch adjuster on the side. This is NOT a motor or bushing problem. Something else is wonky. Any help would be appreciated.

Does anyone know where I can find a replacement bushing for the in/out telescoping bolt?
@gwrobertson89, This worked on my 2000 LX 470 45768-60011. Bush, Telescoping Steering
